Best-kept "secret" among oil filters...Wix, available at NAPA. Quality filters and have been for decades, reasonably priced too.

I spy 4-5 exhaust pipes under the counter. Any chance one of those is K0 vintage, in decent shape, and you’re willing to sell it to your buddy in Utah?
Howdy Utah. neighbor! I do have a K0 pipe, its my original ko pipe but its broken after the header. I sold two really nice pipes and three Trail bike frames just before moving LV. The only decent mufflers i have left is of the 1975 era ;)

Yep, the other thing that is equally important is the oil Filter! Fram sucks dont use em. I use Royal Purple oil filters. No cardboard or plastic one-way valves used like Fram does now made in mexico. They have a vid on YouTube that shows the insides of most filters...the orange fram can is plastic & paper .... cheap crap :poop:

I saw that. It was an eye opener. Fram also had considerbly less filter media than the NAPA brand or Wix. I went out and bought a couple of filters at the NAPA store.

Unless something has changed, NAPA filters are made by Wix. A friend of mine was part of NAPA management, back in the late 1980s; that's where I first learned this little tidbit.

I'd say that Bosch oil filters are a good choice, too...if you can actually find them locally. Mobil-1 filters are like an okay 3rd or 4th choice, decent but overpriced and better quality is available.

The other good value is Castrol GTX oil, for the money it's hard to top. Valvoline still sells good quality oil too. But, be aware that the oil game took another dramatic shift last year. The details and results were lengthy that I couldn't make it all the way through the reading...and it's not good news. Mobil-1, AMSOIL and Castrol Syntec are still the same just a little pricey if not purchased on-sale. I still belive in 3000-3500 mile oil change intervals, for car engines.

Just to be clear, the oil reformulations for the bike crowd are really bad news...especially for fans of Rotella.

Yeah, I've seen the vids on them. Boshe is probably the best at filtering and having the best less restriction. If you want NO restriction and to catch LARGE shavings, Fram is the way to go.lol

It's actually the exact opposite, CJ. The more filter media, the less restrictive and the more effective the filtration. More pleats mean more square inches of surface area, each of which has to flow less CFM to maintain the same overall flow through the filter unit.

Back in the old days, the easiest way to get a less restrictive air filter was to stack two elements one atop the other...double the filter area, half the flow resistance.

I bookmarked the tech documents on my computer, happy to share the links. Be prepared for a long read.

The capsule summary, the zinc and phosphorous content is virtually gone...and those are just the specifics that lodged in memory.

There's easier to digest info out there, with vintage vehicle clubs. The flat-tappet cam crowd is negatively affected, too.

There was a lot of wailing & gnashing of teeth in the oil community when Shell reformulated their Rotella T.
Recent oil analysis reports I've seen show that zinc & phosphorous levels are the same as before. Well over 1000.

Pre-2016 zinc content was verified, via random samples of product, purchased off-the-shelf, between 890-910, substantially below the accepted minimum of 1200. That's marginal for older engines. Can you, or anyone else, come up with an off-the-shelf oil that has increased zinc levels in recent years? Why are ZDDP additives sold? I'm trying to keep this factual, brief and above all useful.

So I decided to get my 79' Trail bike out & commit to a bigger engine install for this season. That's the less expensive solution to the 91' 72cc dilemma. I was leary about making it a 108cc, it's better off staying stock, it only has 275 orig miles.

All i pretty much need is the new engine and new battery. I do have to borrow the fork ear set from my other stock 79' ct70 but thats all, I have the rest of the bike...

So now
working on this frame , i ordered decals and they are not even close to the OEM Honda!:X3:

Luckily I kept the inner decal from this 79' Phoenix AZ bike because this CT70's stock decal is a two piece! The outside part is what usually gets ripped up and falls off.

See if you can spot the differences.
1. Its just a one piece decal, not a two piece, like OEM Honda.
2. The color is wrong. that one is yellow, stock color of the bike is~ school-bus yellow.
3. The Freaking letters are smaller than the stock ones!
4. There is not supposed to be a yellow boarder around the annotation its supposed to be black!!.

I know an outfit that can easily match the old stock Honda annotation letters /decal part. The outer surrounding part with the three colors I will be leaving off.
Anyway, what a hack job!:poop:

That looks like a DrCT70 hack job decal. Where did it come from? I think we all need to know about this seller.

You aren't going to find the original 2-piece decals anywhere unless someone has an NOS set. A lot of the K0-K1 decals I've peeled over the years have been 2-piece, with a silver Mylar base layer. Replicating that would be expensive, now. Decal production circa 2019 bears zero resemblance to anything that was done 40+ years ago.

It's been a long time since I last needed a set of `79 tank decals. That said, NEVC's were good, reasonably priced, as well.

I figured as such. I found an out fit that sells what they call a 'Dale 5". A wide 5 inch racing stripe 6ft for 12 bucks. That makes a good background canvas for a custom decal.
Anyway, If I could get a good copy of the 1979' OEM center decal , I would use it as per my 79' chair mock up...

I will have to talk with a graphic place that has done work for me before, I'm sure they can make one or two of these. Its shouldnt be that hard, its yellow letters on a black background!:D
ps. I will go ahead and order the new decal to read Mini-Trail 150
to reflect its new engine :yellow70::)

Might want to consider if you really want matte, or gloss. Believe it, or not, gloss tends to hold up better, over time.

What I've learned the hard way is that the matte surfaces tend to develop shiny spots. With black, it's really obvious.

Hey Sport Fans! Aired up the tires and running the battery charger xtra long as yesterday it seemed to discharge pretty quickly...
I put fresh 20W-50 in and according to my 91' manual it takes .6 L or 600 ml of the stuff? I thought it was .7. I have yet to add fuel but that is all it needs now.
I'd give it a 90% chance there will be absolutely no fuel leaks:ninja: But if one should come up, I'd have to start wrenching on it and time wise, we're entering the hottest part of the day, so there's a 10% chance I'd be wrenchin in the heat.
I think I will wait till later to try it when the Heat Breaks, oR bright N' early Sun morning. (y)
Tip of the day: Always fill you Trail bike engine oil while wearing your CT Trail bike watch, makes pouring oil easier.;)
