So today, went ahead and changed the Right shock and installed the newly painted yellow Grab Bar too! (y) This bike is small enough for a quick kitchen pit stop, makes it nice to work on.;)
I fixed the mirrors and went for a Quick Cruise! :red70: THese tires feel great on the street and going around corners is when you really notice the difference between these and the Trail Knobby Tires.

These tires and rims look great on your machine. I would imagine it handles A LOT better on asphalt with the street tires!

I had to laugh when I viewed a YouTube video showing two guys on CTs aggressively riding the famed Dragon's Tail at Deals Gap with Trail Wings (see attached link.) Not for the faint-hearted to begin with, and pretty dangerous when leaning into peg-scraping turns with knobbies!

Thanks Special-Ed!
It does handle nicely going around curves, a big improvement with the agility and feel of the bike. I have more confidence with it now that I have the 12 inch rims & tires. Even with the modest speeds its a blast to Ride!

Did you experience any clearance problems with the swing arm/rear fender/front forks? What size are the tires?

I don't understand why the tire height issue is so persistently misunderstood. These bikes are limited to about 1.5" talker than stock and rim size has F/A to do with it. All you can do...without serious mods...is change sidewall height.

Tire tread and rubber compound, OTOH, can make a huge difference. Any road tire is going to have better grip and improve performance over pavement, compared to knobbies.

Either way, once tire diameter exceeds ~19", you first lose chain adjustment range, then the real clearance problems manifest as one goes progressively taller. Beyond ~20" tire-to-chassis clearance can become a safety issue. I've seen guys go over the handlebars when the front tire contacted the lower fork tree, or fender.

Well stated Bob. My 130/90-10 is as tall as the largest 12 that can fit. It just has a tall sidewall profile vs the 12” that has a small sidewall. The difference is mostly visual for or against. 12’s might have the visual edge IMO.

Its seems like you would bottom out easier but its quite the contrary! I have more clearance than ever and it's not a concern.

You may add two inches of rim but then subtract 4 inches of loose sloppy knobby taiwan tire, especially the cheapO knock offs I had on before. THe rear tire breaks or Brakes a lot better:LOL: and I have locked it up easier than the other it seems. As far as swing arm side clearance, it is tight but manageable. Here's the tire:

Okay, I'm finally "getting" this 12" rim/tire heighth thing now. Call me a dumb-ass if you will, but now I understand that with 12" rims we are limited to sidewall heighth, and it's a trade-off: lower sidewalls are available, but don't afford the ride comfort/rim protection that 4.0 x 10s do--yet Adam's 110/70/12s WILL fit nicely if low sidewalls are not a concern, vis-a-vis general road conditions. Consider me enlightened

Just hit the 305 miles mark on the Ct70 this morning. I took it out where the 45 mph limit long stretch O' road is,its called Manse rd. I added 10 ml of oil, I just found my syringe and it needed to be leveled out.

The bike topped out at around 38 -40 mph with the 12" tires. Its running really well and the front wheel pops up in 2 & 3rd a little. It will do 35mph strongly and seems to top out around 40. I do know the speed is not exact, due to the new size rims but i think the speed is still the same, around 42mph.;)
I was really leaning the bike at speed and corners, its so fun especially since the weather is way cooler now.

They just finished paving this curving road behind my house! Now I have a closer entrance way and I don't have to go around the whole housing area, it was almost two miles out of my way and was a hassle.

Here's the new roads, that's my house in the long distance if you look closely. This is a great place to cruise motorbikes now!

So i put another 5 quick miles on the Ct70 this morning, the weather is great! It's the first time its been cool since June! Imagine triple digits temps for more than ~90 days in a row  it Drives you nuts.

The bike is running well, I hit 42 on a long road going down with a slight slope, Going Up the exact same sloped road, it was doing around 38. This bike is so fun to ride now that it has good tires and the 12" rims. I Just hit the 310 miles mark!

Since it has real low mileage, I would take it easy until at least 600 and vary the speeds. Is the speedo correct with the new rims/tires?

Those pics remind me of when I lived in AZ. Had a gold 1970 ct70 that I would take all over the place and get lost on the back roads. Put 2,800 miles on it in about a year. Moved back east but those were some of the best days of my life.

Yep, this bike i purchased with around 250 original miles.

Those speed runs are just to see what it will do, i'm not pushing it that hard. I'm gonna do some of the acceleration and deceleration through the gears.

As Motto Man says:D:http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Remember that both hard acceleration and hard engine braking (deceleration) are equally important during the break in process.

That sounds like it left you with some great memories. These Honda Trail bikes are perfect for some western Desert road cruising and this one gets a lot of attention too, people usually recognize them from their past.
