Decent 72 / K1 ct70 speedo FOUND Thanks

So the nephew found a really honest 72 ct70 - buuut someone smashed out the glass - pulled a screw on the odometer rack and the needle is missing .
It's possible to try and grab pieces I suspect and I may be able to guess at the rack and set another screw - needle and such but I may be just best grab another .
Bike shows as low mileage but will possibly never know now .
All I know is looks like 1500 and less - only guessing at this point - he is having too much fun riding it to poke at it - why bother.
I will when the opportunity is right post up how decent this is and your scanning for deficiencies and finding nothing - then awe you see the speedo face .

I have a '72K1 Speedo that "works", but the needle wants to bounce around some. It would take me awhile to find it. I also have one from a '73 that I accidently smashed the glass out of years ago while trying to straighten the bars, but its guts are good(If I remember right) and the needle is missing. If your interested and have the patience to take one apart and reassemble it, PM me your address and I'll post some pics when I find them.

I have moved since last year and Im having a hard time finding this crap. I work odd hours and its hard to find in the dark.lol. I know I have it, just gotta find it. I think this stuff is in my storage work shed.

BTW, there is no charge, just glad someone can use it, just give me some daylight and I think i can find it

Ok, couldnt sleep til I found it.lol. Here ya go. She is what she is. The '73, I'm pretty sure is in my shed. BTW, I would like to keep the harness thats in it, unless yours is crapped out. They are hard to come by from what I hear.

Full blow the pics and you can see one or two of the numbers are jacked.

BTW, are you sure you have a 72model? If so, you should have that RED high beam indicator, like this one and its round. Below year models have the triangle frame.

BTW#2
If you think you can make one good speedo out of yours and this one, let me know, so I dont have to go through that work shed. I know there is a box with some parts, but since I moved, that portable shed has no electric now.

Thank you sir - YES that looks the part - I have not spent much time assessing this bike since the nephew is stoked that it runs and he states he listened to my conversations about what to look for .
I was going to do a little writeup on it as I previously stated . Looks really decent untill your view captures the speedo face . Meaning the paint , steering stop intact , Bridgestones and such are damn nice . We / meaning family are just a bunch of bodymen and he has heard us talk about the struggles of buying or acquiring junk and learning to buy better examples to keep instead of a complete turd that has been dropped down a mine shaft and thinking this is repairable .
So I will be able to use your example and thank you whole heartilly . I will present this speedo to him on its arrival from you.
I will contact you with pm and arrive at a reasonable amount to buy and ship thanks again Very kind / generous .
As far as the pigtail - he has in putting by - made me aware lights are working so I think there is a good harness . Please by all means keep that portion .
If you can find the 73 I will gladly buy that from you as well .

I'm thinking that '73 has good numbers, so I will try and locate it. That box has some other parts that might help someone else. I just simply forgot about it.lol. My health is not what it used to be, so give me a bit. If I recall correctly, there was a K0 4speed in there too and the guy I sent it too never paid me. All I wanted was the shipping. Whatta prick!lol

Since you PM'd me your addy, Just send me a check for the shipping. I guestimate 10-20 for Canada. Just knowing your kid is pumped about it, makes me happy. Would like to your bike pics in a thread of its own.

BTW, This forum is about helping each other with these bikes. I have been helped SO much and have helped others because I love the hobby and want it to go on. As far as knowledge about them KIRRBBY is the MAN!!! then there's OLDCT and racerx(who dissappeared), but we do what we can

Yes - Thanks - I contacted Kirby first off and surprised me that he did not have stock on this item in his cavernous warehouse distribution centre .
I will post this find 72 and hopefully helps someone else .
This forum and it's members has been a blessing to me and it's nice as well to run into another member such as your self paying it forward as has been done in the past . Thanks

Soo just thought I would say - I posted up for a leg up on this speedo face for the young nephew .
CJPAYNE - a member and contributor here took notice and graciously looked through his stuff and helped out in a great way and more .
I havnt told the kid what's coming his way but he will be pretty excited I would suspect . CJ was very very gracious towards helping this young man whom he has never met , yet treated him like family . Thanks - Your efforts in contributing to the forum and writeups assisting other members goes a long way . I continue to meet allot of great people on this forum .

cjpayne is awesome.
He once sent me a Z50! Just put it in a box and mailed it to MY house!

It's just the kinda guy he is. Good good man.
I know nephew will be really happy to get a speedo on his bike. It's half the fun when you're riding.
I've never opened up a round speedo. Only really worked inside of speedos a couple times...and only triangular ones...and I didn't do a very good job of it either :/
Good luck with your repairs Kelly.

Ben wonderin what happened with bike.

When I saw it, my screwed up brain said, "send that to kirrbby", so I did. It had a good frame and Scott was going to part it out. I had to save it some how. If anyone can save it, kirrbby could or it could be used to save several others. They're always asking him anyways.lol

I had told Scott what that frame was worth and I wanted it. Please dont part it out. Someone had come by and told him about it and wanted it HAULED OFF!!! He gave them 70bucks for bringing it. I saw it and just couldnt let it go to parts. It was the shipping that cost the
$$$ and crating. I think it was worth it. Kirrby also sent me(guilty conscious.lol) a bunch of good stuff. Crankshaft, blah, blah, ect. Still have that stuff. I wasnt expecting anything, but just thought he should have it. Thats why I sent it. I seem to recall, "Theres a surprise coming to your doorstep"lol, but he not an idiot, and new it was a bike.lol............

If I ever find another, oh yeah, I'm sendin it to your house!!!! Count on on it!!!

That young man is going to smile when he see's whats in that box, In two years he's probably going to want a bigger bike(naturally), but he will always remember that bike. Hopefully, he will hang it up, and preserve it for his kids to learn from. It will still bring a smile when he see's his son ride off from it, then he know what we felt........I hope he gets that experience.

Got a call yesterday that the nephew opened that box and felt like a kid at Christmas. After a stressful day at work and loosing a valued person due to retirement, that really cheered me up and MADE MY DAY. It truly is better to give than receive.....well to someone that ACTUALLY appreciates it and needs it.lol. Heard he was pretty stoked. I would've been too.

BTW, if anyone has a 533a in decent/rebuildable condition. The upper threads on his carb appear to be jacked, I have one, but I need it to replace one on a K3 that I cant figure out why it keeps overflowing, unless its above idle. will post about that problem in another thread.

yes it was a pretty nice favor for the kid to receive - it felt good all around .
He spent an hour as i looked over his shoulder as he carefully peeled open the round speedo cover flange - he has it off and asked now what - i wasnt sure .
So - i looked over the search feature - i have not found exactly what is nec, to correct the tumbler numbers back to the mileage on the broken speedo - Do you just remove the c clip on the shaft and that allows a small amount of room to disengage the separate cog and allows it to spin Or .
And thanks - Quinn/nephew - mentioned it several times
he not only got enough speedo parts to fix this relatively clean piece but CJ sent new points , T/L lens , chain , air box cover and filters with a spark plug and more -

Glad he was happy.

There was a guy here, I think it was B17a, that rebuilt them. Hornetgod also redid them.

Okay - the round 72 /k1 speedo we worked on - once the flange for the glass lens had been peeled back - a couple screws allowed the guts/needle sweep to drop away from the base to assess the mechanism .
The need was to reasemble the correct mileage on the numeral tumbler set .
A simple "C" clip removal was removed from the Odometer Numeral shaft and this allows 1/4" or so to pull and turn the digit wheels to your specified spot and so on . Once you have your numbers in the order you want, lightly push the numeral wheels back into position and check for NO gaps in the rack and numbers are aligned .
Place the C clip back in .
There is no need to remove the steel face or the pointer as long as you dont manhandle the unit .

Couple questions came up - we had one Speedo face - Green and another Black with Hn then the 1 that came smashed on the bike was Black with Nippon Seki - and the jewels were a little differant . Can a discussion be had on round speedos and their year differances ?
Hope this helps
