Easy To Change Out Stator On Lifan 125cc?

From the start the stator on my Lifan 125cc 4-Speed worked off and on. Sometimes it'd be about 14 volts and sometimes less than 5 volts so I know there's some kinda short. I did try multiple Reg/Rec's with no luck. I actually installed a Baja Designs Ni-Cad 12 volt Battery Pack which runs the lights, horn, blinkers, high beam, brake lights for a couple of hours without needing to be charged. I put it under the seat with wires for both + and - so I can charge it without having to remove the seat, but I'd like the actually engine to run everything and be charging. I put it on this Frankenstein XR70, which was built with cheap Chinese parts to make it Street Legal. I changed out the front sprocket for the biggest one that would fit in the case, and put the smallest sprocket on the rear wheel. Before 1st was just way to low and useless. Now it's perfect! I wouldn’t want to do it with out the proper specialty tools! I use a flywheel puller(same as the ct70 kind). A hammer activated impact driver. Proper JIS Phillips bits. Then to put it back you will need something to hold the flywheel while you properly torque the flywheel nut. A clutch/flywheel holder or maybe a strap wrench. And of course a torque wrench. Draining the oil first is a good idea too.

There are 2 screws that need to be removed from the stator plate. This is where you use the impact driver and JIS bits. Make sure your driver is set-up to turn counter clockwise when you hammer it. Once you get the screws out you’ll have to pry the plate up it’s a snug fit. Be careful and don’t damage anything. Also on the other side of the screw holes there are 2 O-rings. Be conscious of these you don’t want them falling in your engine. Some times they stay in their spot sometimes they stick to the back of the stator plate.
It’s actually pretty straight forward.

Yeah. I got those tools from replacing another XR70's Semi-Auto to a Manual Clutch. I'm shocked I didn't do a search on You Tube before posting. I guess I'm slipping in my old age! Lol.
 
I bought the replacement stator off of eBay and plugged it in just as MM described above with no hassle. With the right tools, you're golden. Popped mine in and worked with no issues. One of the glories of china made - replacements are easy to find
