engine bogs when opening throttle

I recently replaced my kick shaft so had the cases split on my 74 z50ak5.everything went back together fine and it starts first kick and idles fine but when I open the throttle it bogs. I have tried adjusting the carb settings and made sure the timing was right on IE cam gear marks and flywheel at TDC. it does sometimes have a small backfire which i thought might be timing but it looks correct
Any ideas on what this might be
I would appreciate any help and i know the wisdom in here on these little engines is remarkable.
thanks

try the points again.. i had the same problem and it turned out to be the points.. i played with the carb for days.. tried fuel lines, compression.. etc etc.. turned out to be the points// try different gap and move them around... good luck

I had that problem. I cleaned/replaced the main jet in the carb. The reason why it idles fine is because there is a different jet specifically for idle. Good luck

backfiring is probably timing... mine was the same.. idles fine.. when open the throttle when ridding is sputtered and almost back fired.. turned out to be the points..

M K1 did that. It was a combo of clogged jet, points setting, and an air leak/compression loss through the sparkplug hole. I guess the threads were dulled because it was always wet with gas around the plug
