Hello, Can anyone point me towards a reference that describes the casting marks on early (serial numbers under 200) Honda CT70 heads and cylinders. I have some early bikes and am trying to confirm if the heads and jugs are original to the engines. Thanks, Keith

The earliest CT70's have head castings with a diamond, and lines. 3 or 4 lines I think...not sure.
I'm also not really sure about the cylinder #'s. Maybe A1? "HM-A1" would be my guess for a bike THAT early. And it would have "72cc" cast in...no cmsquared stamp on the early parts.
If you post pictures....it's a much better way to get some opinions here on lilhonda.

Thanks for the info. I have a several early bikes, and the casting markings seem a bit confusing relative to the serial numbers. I could imagine that these were commonly switched around from engine to engine during servicing over the years. I do have a head with 1 diamond and 1 slash mark. I assume it is very early. I have seen heads with the diamond and both 3 and 4 slashs. Seems like other heads are then marked Ex where x is single digit number. I also have a couple of cylinders (jug) with HM-A1 on them, then others with HM-B3. Has there been any chart compiled that shows the approximate serial numbers vs. head & cylinder markings?
