Engine Pre-lube?

Is there something special you guys use on your engines when reassembling? Or just your engine oil of choice? Any particular parts that need special attention? I’ll be reassembling mine in the next while.

Motor oil is fine. I like to fill the engine via the upper rocker cover, to flood the valvetrain, Once that's been done, cap replaced, the engine can be inverted, to flood the top of the crankcase. It's overkill, but easy & as thorough as it gets.

The clutch discs when new & dry will absorb a small amount of oil. Soaking them prior to assembly is ideal, if a little messy.

A engine builder told me to use a 50/50 mix of engine oil and STP. That's what I've been using since. It's kinda thick and slimy and sticky...consistency of honey. Seems like the right stuff for the job, but may be unnecessary...overkill. but I'm often super slow putting engines together, or with long delays. So I think it might be necessary for ME.

The stator to crankshaft seal needs a little bearing grease smeared on it before assembly. Just a precautionary trick I learned from OLD CT.

I also put a dab of bearing grease on the 2 stator o rings that sit in the case before you install the stator. Don't forget to re install em. It is a must that you use JASO ''wet clutch'' motorcycle oil also! No car oil... Being that you probably have two weeks of hot weather in Canada if you are lucky, use 10/40 weight.

Ha ha ha. We might get a little more than 2 weeks of hot weather but I do plan my camping and trail riding vacations around those 2 good weeks.

All good with the JASO designated oil. It's the only kind I buy for my bikes. I mostly use 10/40. I lost one of those pesky stator o rings when I Took the stator out. Its not in the engine, I had a good look in there. The grease I'm sure will help keep them were there supposed to be.

Up here in the winter if you want to ride your dirt bike guys screw long studs in their knobbies and ride the frozen lakes and run the rivers and creeks.
