Ok... it's time to get my red CT70 up and rolling.

I have a real nice '73, but want to get the "other" one ready for the new season of racing and trail maintaince. It runs real well, but is not a show piece. I don't need to be super "correct" with it.

So... what I need is a seat...air box ....and exhaust. I have been moving parts from one bike to the other, but now it's time get both bikes on line.

I've seen an after market pipe.... didn't look too bad.

The seats seems to be an item from "Aisa Honda"

and the air box I've seen complete...I could also just get the items I'm short.

I'm open to suggestions... what would you folks recomend.

has anyone tried the pipe offered by Trail Buddy..... $72.

this may be perfect for my pit bike.

and need lessions learned on seats, any that just bolt on?

and yea...this weekend the '73 will be cruzin the pits, always get tons of looks!

All of the Chinese copy exhausts sold in the past 3 years, or so, are pretty much the same. Retail prices vary and that's about it. There are a couple of longtime ebay sellers who have listed these for ~$40. One or more may be closer to your location, if it's riding season in your locale. You'll find them to be very quiet, even quieter than stock OEM with the baffle in place. That comes at the cost of higher restriction. They're spec'd for EU noise limits and 49cc. Some lost power might not matter to you, if you're only riding around the pits on race day, the occasional swap meet, where 20mph is hauling:Booty:

Descriptions such as "Asian Honda" are what one tries to avoid when walking through a dairy farmer's field. Think about it, just where did Honda have their bikes & parts manufactured, Pittsburgh? Translation: "the part in question is an aftermarket repop". That necessarily doesn't mean it's a bad part, just being misrepresented. There have been some decent-looking K0 (`69-`71) and K1 (`72) repop seats coming from Vietnam. As with nearly all of the recent vintage aftermarket seats, they can leave a bit to be desired. Mainly, the seat foam has been rock hard, probably not much of a concern for a pit bike. There have also been problems with the seat latch not engaging. Again, not necessarily a deal breaker as you don't absolutely have to have the seat secured while riding. Plus, the seat hinge bolt holes can probably be elongated enough to correct this. Just avoid any seat that has spring loaded pins at the outside rails; these are for `91 & later models and have a different latching setup than your bike.

As for the airbox, if it fits, use it. The only reason to be concerned with getting the exact OEM style that your bike came with is for a purist-type restoration. Dratv lists airboxes & parts, including the hard-to-find rear elbow. Some are less expensive than the original type. You could also use an aftermarket air filter, they're cheaper yet, if function is the only concern.

Asia Honda/Honda Asia seats

I am not saying they are not counterfeit, but Honda does have an asiahonda.com website which has now changed to hondaasia.com.
I have found the seats to be a reasonable substitution. They do have a similar 9 seam heat pressed pattern. The cushions are quite hard. The studs are a little different but are spaced relatively close to the original. What has changed from previous seats available is that they do latch properly. So I guess for the purist who can't find an uncracked original pan and doesn't like the look, or hassel of a welded pan, IMO they are the most presentable, affordable alternative out there.

Like Racer said the foam is a bit firm, maybe my 230lb

Good stuff...

looks like I'll nix the after market pipe... I've seen OEM for like $92. No heat sheilds, but I'm sure that I must have one around somewhere. But really don't need any power loss. I did see a "thumper" pipe....but that was more than the OEM.

I'd love to toss the stock air box, but when I tried just a "pod" filter, it was like a giant air leak. Both of my bikes did not run well until I returned to the stock set up. I need to find out what parts I do have for the air box and just order the missing items.

I'm not to fussy with the seat.... I do have the stock seat base, but a replacement will work fine. I just don't want to have mod it to work.

What a great site....I've been messing with CT's since my first pit bike in '78. I have had 5x or so...2 and 1/2 right now. But here is a great resource and bunch of folks with a lot of experience. And it seems like there are a lot more sources for parts than I ever thought.

Aftermarket & OEM exhaust parts rarely interchange. The stock muffler had a removable baffle, the best of both worlds.

If your bike runs poorly with a less-restrictive air filter, then your stock assembly must have been quite a restriction. Now the air:fuel mixture is too lean. Try dropping the jet needle clip to the lowest groove and see if that cleans things up. If it does, you're at least on the right track, maybe even done. If it at least gets better, then you need to go up to the next larger main jet size. Assuming that the motor has decent compression, you should see noticeably stronger performance. It could also be that your carb needs a good cleaning and rebuild; that frequently causes lean running.

An intact original seat pan is hot commodity with restorers. It also fits properly. Thus, you could simply source a new cover (replacement foam, too, if yours is shot) + rivets and you'd have a reconditioned seat for less than even a cheap replacement. As for foam, it doesn't "soften" or "break-in". Back in the day, Honda used latex foam. It was good material, but dries out over the years and turns into graham cracker crumbs. These days, it's shockingly expensive, thus urethane foam has become the new material of choice. It far more stable over time, but has very different properties. If comfortable seat padding is important to you, custom-made foam is about the only way to go. If you're not at all fussy about this, then you've got a number of $50 choices.

Yea...both 70's did not run well with the "pods". I did mess with the jetting without great results. As soon as I re-installed the stock air box, the issue was resolved.

Now if I had a better sellection of jets, maybe I could have done better with it.

So, I may just look in to the seat cover... the VN seats are nice but the shipping cost override and savings.

and the OEM pipe is on the list now....

so much for the aftermarket stuff.

Hi Folks... been a while... down to one CT70.. time for a work over for it.
it is really good shape.. just needs a few things.

first is the muffler...

who are your go to guys for OEM... forum supporter..?

Right now Honda nuts has free shipping for orders over $250 so if you plan on buying the guards and related parts it might be cheaper to go through them? Just price it all out…
