getting new title

Anyone know a reputable title agency? Just finished rebuild of a HKO frame I bought on the net. Would like to title the bike. CAR or Classis Automotive Restoration in Cleveland, AL appears to be out of business - disconnect phone line. Calls to Titles Unlimited gets you a porn/chat line. ITS or International Title Services in Las Vegas gets a busy line nearly every time although I got through once and the guy who answered seemed sketchy at best. Would be reluctant to give him my credit card #.

Any thoughts/help? ITS said prices went up last July - now $200+. Help

ITS has been a legit source of titles for a number of years. Unfortunately, laws have gotten a lot tougher in many states. It's supposedly intended to thwart illicit activity but probably a lot more honest folks end up getting ass-raped on the deal, what else is new?

At this point, it may be easier to take the bike & bill of sale to your state DMV and just jump through their hoops yourself. There's a lot a variations from state-to-state, so no way to predict how tough the process might be in your locale. That said, it seems to be the most populous states that give owners the toughest time. Have to think that NE would be among the more laid-back states for titling antique vehicles.

NE aint laid back in any way when it comes to getting a new title. You have to bond the bike for two years while the DMV looks into the VIN number. And if anything doesn't "pop" up on the VIN as being stolen in those two years they will forfiet the bond and give you a title for 100.00 + dollars. FUN KNOT!!

Thanks for the education, Brian. Seems that your state was renamed "The People's Republic of Nebraska" when I wasn't looking:13:

Maine is one of the Bill of Sale and no inspection states too. :4:
RacerX, we have so MUCH state Goverment now we only pay 3 times the average property taxes on our homes now. :47:

I understand only too well about outrageous property taxes. Once the Great Lakes have been drained to irrigate the southwest, MI will be known as "the great tax state".

:focus:

ITS used to use Georgia to register vehicles. They are, or at least were, one of the states that required no title for 25+year old vehicles.

MI is, shall we say, really inconsistent with titling antiques (anything more than 25 years old). It's supposed to require completed forms, filled out by your local cop shop, then you pay 6% "use tax" and a reasonable (no joke) title fee and you're on the road. Some secretary of state offices, however, have been known to issue titles with little more than submission of a bill of sale...and the money, of course.
