Heading back to California Saturday. It will stay here with my Dad until I return again. The weather report is predicting 53 degrees Friday. Might be good enough for one more trip down memory lane.

That is a really nice original bike! My fav part is that sticker on the top of the chrome holder for the tail light. Little stuff like that makes an original really sweet!

Belated update: While I was back home (Ohio) visiting family in March, I pulled out the K2 and did some more work on it. I rebuilt the front shocks and replaced the rubber boots, replaced the torn seat cover, installed a new OEM muffler, and installed a set of K3 mirrors. The perches had holes for mirrors and when I first started working on it, it had an pair of crappy aftermarket mirrors my Grandfather probably installed back in the day. I think the K3 mirrors have more of an original appearance and only a handful of stock purists would know the K2's didn't come with mirrors in the first place.

I plan to rebuild the clutch, repaint the rims and possibly replace the tires next visit home.

Heading back to Ohio again to visit family and friends in July. I can't resist working on the K2 some while I'm there. I plan to replace the clutch friction plates and springs as well as install a new set of Bridgestone Trail Wings tires. I'll probably clean and repaint the the engine side covers, rims, and hubs while I have them off the motorcycle.

Back in Ohio again visiting Family. Making plans for our eventual return once I retire from the Navy in early 2015. I also ordered a few items for the K2 and worked on it a little while visiting. I installed a new set of Bridgestone Trail Wings, painted the rims & hubs, rebuilt the clutch, and replaced the wire harness sheathing. I took her out on some back country roads for a shack down ride after the most recent improvements and she tops out between 37-39 mph on level ground and hit 45 mph on a short down hill grade. Not bad for a 255 pound rider.

After a year in storage, my Dad pulled out the K2. He cleaned it up and it started on the second kick. He included a picture.

My Uncle was going through his old photos and found this picture taken of my Grandfather with the Trail 70. The picture is dated "1973" and was taken in Canada on a camping adventure. The motorcycle was right around a year old. He was 54 at the time.

I'm guessing that he had just bought it just before the picture. The tires look brand new. I remember him riding around when we went camping and putting around the small town he lived in. It was well taken care of and the grandchildren were forbidden to ride it. It was never abused.

Wish I had a pic like that of my grandpa ridding his CT. Great pic to have. Definitely safeguard that one. Thanks for posting it.

I second that, it's a cool pic... I never got to meet either grandpa of mine, they were dead before I was born, since I was the ninth child in a large family. Definitely a keeper... somehow, he reminds me of Harry Truman, LOL. :red70:
