Grom versus Monkey (price difference)

Good description. I rode mine 15 miles on Saturday. I agree with your assessment. I kept it under 50. A little out in the country here. 50 is about 6k rpms in 5th gear or maybe a little more. Use the cable to lock your helmet. Through the D rings on the strap then into the lock. I’ve never used it but that’s it’s purpose

Seems silly to have to remove that sidecover every time you want to lock up your helmet. Neither of my two open face helmets even have D rings. What's also silly is that you have to unlock the sidecover with the key to remove (so no one will steal that valuable tool kit?). I removed the little pivot inside and replaced it with a plain washer so the key is no longer needed to remove the sidecover. I also adjusted the handlebars forward a bit, made the reach feel more natural.

I haven’t been in the side cover ever. I suppose it’s good for paperwork unless you carry 5 registrations in your wallet

I think I can fit an 8 mm, a 10mm and maybe a small crescent in there. Got 55 miles on it now and one thing I miss is that I like to cruise with my feet on the passenger pegs on my other two Li'l Hondas. I may have to fabricate some brackets. They sell them on ebay, but they're $180 and come from Thailand (where else?).

Or install Grom brackets and be done. I think they may fit. I sometimes use the passenger brackets when I’m on the Grom so I get that

Did some researching and found that the Monkey shocks are approx 1 1/4 inch diameter at the bottom, which is the same diameter and Harley crash bars. So guys have mounted Harley highway pegs and brackets onto their shocks and used them as passenger pegs. For me, it'll be just like a rearset for cruising. By the way, passed the hundred mile mark today. Still haven't given it full throttle, but it cruises nicely at 50.

A novel approach. I measured just to verify and agree that it looks possible to go that route for rear pegs. I’m still at 15 miles. Wintery weather. I’m grounded

Lol. Really. It’s wet and 34 deg. Snow and sleet expected later this evening
It was 49 this morning, but a nice sunny 75 this afternoon here in So Cal. When my pegs arrive, I'll send a picture. Also, my CT70 got jealous sitting next to that shiny new Monkey, so it asked me for some love. So I took her apart for a a new paint job, decals, rims, trim, and gonna strip and polish front fork legs, hubs, etc.

Years ago, my work flew a bunch of us out to Greenville for a week, sponsored by Michelin to tour the plant and test some tires. A sweet little town, it was winter, but I don't recall any weather like that.

Yup. G-ville is an hour and 15 north of me. It gets snow almost every year. Our winter lasts about a month. Monday it’s going to. Wait for it Kirrbby

50 and sunny 😁. Riding weather. Looks like I may get to unstick the odometer on the Monkey 😁😁😁

50 at 6:30 am is what I look for to ride to work. Low end of...ok to bundle up and ride...knowing it can only get warmer from there. (y)
You'd think I'd be a little tougher...born and raised in Flint Michigan and all...but I'm really NOT.
I prefer 60+ degrees, then I still wear a coat if I plan to ride very far. Makes for a short season.

Been retired 3 years now, but for 15 years before that I commuted 17 miles to work on the most congested 10 miles of freeway in the entire country. Rain or shine, I'd spilt lanes on my Harley and we had our 35 degree mornings, two pairs of gloves, flannel lined jeans, sometimes my snowmobile suit, sometimes a rainsuit. Then there were the 108 degreee afternoons, seat you could fry an egg on, motor pinging, engine heat cooking my legs. 30 minute ride on a bike, two hours in a car. Lived to tell about it, Harley has 117,000 miles, still on original clutch. Retired life at 45 miles per hour is my sweet reward.

Hey Deoodles, I have an idea regarding the fuel gauge. I couldn't find anything in the owners manual, but this is what I think goes on. The tank holds 1.5 gallons. There's 6 bars on the fuel gauge. I rode about 130 miles and the gauge was down to 1 bar. At about 145 miles the one bar started blinking. So I stopped and gassed up. It took 1 gallon. So I guess when the last bar is blinking, you have a half a gallon left and should be good for at least another 50 miles without worrying. I may run it out of gas just to see what happens. It still beats the hell out of my CT70 which goes on reserve after 40 miles. By the way, my Harley highway pegs came in and they fit perfectly on the Monkey rear shocks. Also got some mirror extenders, so now I can see behind me instead of just my shoulders.

Your spot on on the fuel gauge. Thats where my Monkey was. Still at 15 miles on the new one. I have the exact same mirror extensions on mine. They make a huge difference. Before I sold my 2020 I took off all the goodie’s I added. I have a Takegawa tach and temp gauge and some bolts with knobs for tool free seat removal. I haven’t installed the gauge yet but may by the time spring arrives. I’ll post some pictures soon I like the foot peg solution!!!

Here is the picture of the seat bolts I upgraded to. I have this tack and I may install it I just swiped a picture of it off the Internet though not my bike

I need to get a set of those seat bolt/knobs. I wanted to ask you, should I do an oil change at 200 miles? Filter too? I'm still riding it easy and haven't given it full throttle yet, but I did an oil change on my 140 at 100, 200, and, 500 miles (including a valve adj). The Monkey's power delivery is smooth as silk, but my 140 has more midrange punch, not that I'm complaining...

This isn’t a cheap aftermarket motor. Honda says 600 miles and I did my first at 500. I did the filter and will with every oil change. I too did my 140 at 15 minutes an hour, 100,200 and will do again at 500. It’s apples to oranges if you try to make any comparisons.

Leave the valves alone, check if you like but they should be fine for a long time
