Grom versus Monkey (price difference)

Both the new Grom and Monkey are awesome bikes, with their new long stroke 125cc engines and 5 speed transmissions. But why does the Monkey list for $4199 and the Grom for only $3399. The dealers here in so cal are greedy, gouging customers with ADM's ranging from $500 to $1200. I've ridden a Monkey, but not a Grom. Is it worth paying the additional $800 for the Monkey? Both a little scarce, but available if you look. I'm going to wait another month until the Navi's start hitting the showrooms, and see if that makes the Groms and Monk's a little more reasonable, but I'm still undecided on what to get. Advice welcome.

Once you ride the 5 speed it’s a little challenging to go back to the 4 speeds at least for me. I’ve sold my 2020 Monkey and I’m next in line for a 2022 Monkey. I already have the 5 speed Grom and it’s my go to for a long ride. The $800 dollar difference in prices comes down to the chrome fenders on the Monkey instead of plastic on the Grom. Also the gas tank on the Grom is hidden under the bodywork and the Monkeys is metal and out there to see. My guess is the seat on the Monkey adds as well. Very plush and comfortable. Completely two very different rides that just happen to share the same running gear. Neither is wrong so it’s a personal choice.

Thanks for the info. Did you have to put a deposit down to get in line for a new Monkey. Did they give you an out the door price at the time and an ETA? I think for me, the Monkey is the way to go.

I got the call last night. Picked it up this morning. Unfortunately it’s in the 30s and so it’s just too cold for me to go out riding.

The first lil honda member to buy one! Congrats! It's 39, people in N.J. would be out riding. Lol. Great break in weather...

Thanks Guys. Honda was listening. The bike has improved torque in first and is way less buzzy at cruising speeds. The shocks were also improved. They don’t bottom out like the 2020. Quality is still good. I’m happy. It’s much more enjoyable to ride

Congratulations, The coldest is ever gets here is mid thirties, but I'd still ride (though not very far mind you). Mine should be in by the end of the month (also banana yellow).

I’m sure your going to be very happy with your choice. Let us know when you get the call. I waited about a month but used the time to sell my monkey so I could pay for the new one. Can’t wait to hear your first ride report

To get a good price, I am buying it from a dealer 300 miles away (from the greedy, gouging so cal dealers). Just finished fabricating a hitch mounted rack to fit my Honda Fit for the trip. My CT70 fit fine and drove down to my son's to make sure his 2021 Monkey fit the rack as well. No problems and hopefully I'll get over 40 mpg for the trip.

Good to hear. I’m stuck at 1 mile with mine due to the cold. Guess you get to let us know how it is. Can’t wait to hear

Damn, that DOES look like a nice bike!
Congrats!

You're a tall dude for such a little motorcycle...and car, for that matter.
Gonna add a basket for your little friend?

Our little mutt hasn't been on a motorcycle yet. However he does ride in his carrier on our road tandem bicycle. Took the monkey out for a 25 mile ride around town. Still breaking it in, easy throttle, kept it under 40 mph, but it is a joy to ride. Plush seat, solid feel, smooth torquey engine, excellent brakes, effortless controls. 1st gear is short enough for easy takeoffs, 5th gear is tall enough for comfortable cruising. Feels so much more confidence inspiring than my CT70 or CL90. Now I truly am an old guy with too many bikes (5), but they're all keepers.

Hey Deoodles, did you check out the "tool kit" that came with the bike? What's that silly piece of looped wire in the plastic sleeve for. To catch rattle snakes if you break down in the desert?
