Honda Nice Crate Engine

I have no clue but can attest to the Grom motor seemingly being good quality. It has nice shifts and decent gear ratios.

Well, the Nice engine is certainly a proven engine. Two members on this forum have honda Nice engines that have done over 20,000 miles without rebuilds. I have three honda Nice engines, and they are in a class of their own compared to the rest of the engines that fit directly in these bikes.

yes but, one can get almost 8 engines for the price of one? If you were racing maybe. Each on to his own. But, Like when I was a teenager, I got a Ford Ranger for $3k a friend stopped by and was all dude, you should get a complete Rancho suspension kit (around $10k) I was like WTF LOL Took that truck out and 4 wheeled it to hell and back with out issue for years!

8?

8 $250 engines?
Or 8 rebuilds kits maybe?...Valve job, timing chain kit, hone, shift forks, and clutch plates might be 300. + your labor.
A $250 engine is a 72cc high miler that runs, but needs a rebuild... top quality core.

I've never had the opportunity to ride a Grom, but I bet they're NICE. Spankin new Honda motorcycle...small one. I would think they would shift smooth, ride sweet, and handle great. Good power, stop on a nickel, no squeaks or leaks, start every time with the push of a button.

What else would I expect from a 2016 Honda.

Only problem that I see is that it's not a CT70, or Z50, or ZB50...

Oh ya.... Guess I wasn't even considering those. We started out talking about the Rolls Royce of mini bike engines.

125cc http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-UP-LIFAN-...m5882c9c6b4:m:maFrQENxRv07o79PMaq8cJg&vxp=mtr

that's 8 (less Shipping) and each will last a good time, more than one could beat up in a few years at least. Like I said unless your racing this $2k engine is just over kill but each on to his own and pockets :D

Well, not really for racing, but more for reliability. If you are planning on riding the bike for extended rides (for example, I will do 300 mile days) then I want something that will get me there and back without worry. Bases on my extensive experience with Chinese motors, they all seem to start breaking down around the 2500-3000 mile mark unless kept in absolute best tune and not abused. So then you do the bore kit, or the clutches, fix the seals, transmissions start getting really clunky, maybe the electrical dies. All of those things are avoided with a high quality Honda product. Get on it, kick it, and it runs 20000 miles from now the same way it ran when it was new.

A stock Honda nice engine is not a race engine by any means. However, it is proven to be the most reliable one that mounts into these bikes. I suspect a really well-cared for example will last someone 30k+ before needing a rebuild.

yes, racing or long rides :red70: def want something good!

I just got my first knock off, going to put it threw the paces and I can then have more in site to these kind of engines like some of you do.

No way my body could take a 300 mile ride, more like 50 :1:

Hypothetical Q:

To the best of my knowledge, the Grom will top out at about 60-63 MPH. I think I can remember hearing the Nice 110 does about that same speed too.

So my question is; If the Nice110 displacement was built to a 125cc like the Grom's engine; my feeling is it would do a lot better than the Grom's 60mph.
Is that an accurate statement?...or what:10:

The info they used sounds very familiar to me. I think they robbed most of it from Motor City Mini Trails. http://www.ct70honda.com/NiceEngineHeadquarters.html

Ahh good find, I would get a used one for $1,400. Comes with carb and more!

It may Adam but remember the nice is a bolt in and the Grom isn't 60-63 does sound right on a flat run Hills slow the Grom down I have been on 250 mile rides with it. If the Nice 110 can do 60 ish and a 250 mile ride it would indeed be the Rolls Royce for the CT70 providing it has longevity over the lifan type.

Figure in if your china tranny gernades and locks up the rear wheel, that would make you want a Nice 110 instead of ass rash after wiping out. :21: 8 china engines yes, and a lot of headaches along the way. Do it once and do it right is the best method for me. I only stay close to home with my L140. I have good luck with it as I don't beat on it. If I beat on it, I am not so sure it would last. Been there done that with another L138 back in 2007? and the trans locked up like I mentioned. I was in a ''straight line'' going fairly ''slow''. Thank goodness!

DOH!! did you just toss that thing or investigate to why? Other than it being a POS :9:

I took it apart and it was 3rd gear, the gear I was in. I can only assume when it knocked off a couple teeth and it soon after decided to shred both third gears entirely. Wish I had a picture of the old trans. I wound up parting out the head as it was in excellent condition with a new mega cam with around 50 miles on the cam. The cam gave me 5 more mph and more rpms than stock and had it up to close to 70. Just ran it too hard on the street, I guess.

Here is a 3rd gearset from a Chinese 125, one that had a poorly designed kickstarter idler gear setup. The countershaft end was machined down to 10mm for the idler gear and constant kicking resulted in the shaft end eventually breaking off at the trans shaft bearing. It wasn't a very pretty sight inside the cases...

Don't get me wrong here...the chinese motors can be made to be dependable. Generally, the heads are fine...they last a long time without issue. The piston and cylinder, too, quite honestly, are not the issue provided you are not overheating it and keeping the oil changed. The bottom end is where things start falling apart. Transmissions, electronics, clutches, kickers, and crank bearings...those seem to wear out before the top end. Is there something that can be done? Sure...but then you start adding lots of cost. For example, you can (i think) direct swap a TRX90 transmission into a chinese mid-block case or with some minor mods. That solves your transmission issue. Electronics, the ricky stators are $60...that fixes your electronics. Replace the bottom end bearings with high quality japanese bearings, including the crank bearings. The clutch plates are fine, its the basket that seems to have issues. Again, the TRX90 basket can be used, but you need to swap the large gear on it. You'll need to do custom machining and know what you're doing. The parts you cannot solve for are the kickstarter gear and the kick-in gear mesh gear. There is nothing that I'm aware of that resolves this. However, if you do all those other things, you will increase life of the engine significantly.

After you do all of this, you'll have added another 300-400 in cost to the engine...maybe more depending on how much you can do yourself. At that point, you'd be better off buying two chinese engines...and when the first one dies, keep it for parts, and drop a new one in.

The honda Nice is a forever motor. If you don't muck with it too much, it should last you a lifetime with limited issues. Sure, you'll have to bore it over in about 20000-25000 miles. Sure you'll have to replace the clutches. But you shouldn't have to do much more but keep it clean, tuned, and filled with good, fresh oil and clean the spinner after every 2-3k miles.

Considering the usual gibberish translation to English, I suspect what you say is true. Just go to Motor City Minitrails for your engine. Virtually the same price.
There is a very good chance that Bob will just take your money. There are other places where you can get Nice engines without the ripoff.
