My new Honda z50 k0. Needs new seat or cover that is compatible with k0 features and exhaust guard. All else is there thanks to Kirby supplying the levers. Gas tank has some rust spots and minor pin holes. Not sure if I want to restore or sit as is. I would restore it back to Honda specs so I won't mod it. Came with all original paper work as well which is quite cool.

Excuse the mess as my garage has now become the place we store stuff until we move. Makes it very difficult for me to do much in there. Grrrr.

Yeah I was all set to buy one a month ago in PHX. Guy ended up selling it from under me the day I was going down to buy it. Funny tho fate should have a say in this as I saw the original ad it was sold to this guy for about two weeks before me (seller had two bikes sold the k0 and was waiting on the other to sell but they were in the same ad). He gave me this long story about how he got it from an original owner and the bike was all original yada yada yada well he yada yada over the best part. It was repainted. You could see blue under the yellow paint. Bars weren't original so grips weren't. Fenders weren't original seat wasn't etc. The list goes on. Anyways after searching I found the one I bought. Cool guy out of way northern CA. Talked it over came to a deal and he honored it. So I got original paperwork etc from an honest seller albiet for more money... but I got the original title lol. Anyways I just saw the bike I wanted to buy in PHX for sale again by a new owner for more then he bought it for. I kind of chuckled.

Nice bike Andrew. The paperwork is a VERY cool kicker.

If the original seat cover TOP panel is good, with no tears, I think a upholsterer might be able to make you a new seat cover, using the original top. Maybe contact Jerry's Z50's. He might have some info for you, and he seems like a cool guy from the little bit of back and forth I've had with him.

Top panel is almost flawless. It's the sides that are beat. I will see what Jerry has to say. I'd love to keep it as original as possible. I know most nos seats are pebble top which isn't like the k0 smooth top.

The K0 has one more...or one less panel that K1 & K2's also. Can't remember which.
Well it depends the early one had 6 seams the later k0 had seven. It's the smoother top that sets them apart from k0 vs k1 and k2 I think as the k1 and k2 were a tougher finish.

Pretty sure the K1's had a smooth...ish top too. But I think there is one less panel on K1's and 2's. My K2 here has 7 panels...6 seams.

I think the early K0 had 6 seams and was a flat seat. Then they moved to 7 seams with a raised back edge maybe from keeping kids to fall off the back. I have that z50 book I will take a look at the section on the seats and report back.

Yes, you are correct. Looks like you have a type III seat, vin #116960, 116729, 117234 but can't see how tall the tail is. Possibly a type II seat, both have the 7 seams.

I know my original seat was smooth the more pebbly grain came out on the k2's. I had mine recovered many years ago since I litterly wore it out, I need to look and see if the original is still underneath.

My vin is 119572- so very near the end of the K0 production line; therefore I think it is a type III seat. Engine 119049- and the engine is original to the bike. I have it written in the Honda warranty card back when it was bought in 1968. I thought man 500 plus is nearing not original engine territory however the z50 book states that is kind of a normal occurrence. Then I saw the warranty card. Lots of cool original paperwork this bike came with. Especially seeing all the "replacement part" prices that were listed in the book.

Only around the block a few time because of the horrible weather but I love it. The oil cooler is overkill on the 88 but it's there now... I can't wait to get the 108 done.
