Agree! Sounds like it turned out like mine, Art. You ever post any pictures of it?

I've used his CandyTopaz & It was nice . I really think he mis-labeled this kit . The color looks to a very good Gold . If that color was on a KO it would be a nice original gold color .

The first "yellow" he sent me was green (post #19, chain guard). I should have cut my losses then and went with HOK yellow.

Hey Art, the completed pic you sent looks real close to me but you're right - their CYS shouldn't even be sold as such. Their green, red, and blue/greens are seemingly perfect. Had I known I would have probably gone with red too...but then there's that bitchin' candy blue also...:13::D

I personally would keep the CYS...That is an extremely rare color and to stay original would be a huge plus to me from a buyers/collectors perspective. I think that if you did that and didn't like it you could make some $$ on a sale...And know that you kept a piece of Honda history intact. Of course that depends on the initial investment, but I have watched that color and model sell very high. You could then get an original CRR HK1. The red is nice looking but it's much more common and that is the one bike that collectors always have a hard time finding and they pay well for it.

George would be able to hook you up in the right popping color I bet.

This is just my opinion...I like CT's to stay original unless it's going full out custom especially the HK1's since there were fewer made than the HK0's. The other thing is that you personally have struggled very hard to make/keep your HK0 as original as possible...I don't mean this as a slam, but it has been almost an obsession with you on your HKO to have everything about it just as it was in 1970 and so I just wonder if you will be truly happy knowing that the HK1 would not be brought back original if you changed the color? Just a thought... It would be a shame to get your dream bike and then have that nagging thought that you altered the biggest thing on it. I think other people can change colors on these and have no problem and thats fine...I just don't think you are one of them...I'm not either...In fact when I do a custom, I've decided it will be a frame from a "gasp"...clone, I just can't make myself do what I want for a custom on an original Honda CT70. Too much of my daddy in me I guess.

Brian made a good point on appreciating what it is. I liked that statement and have found it to be true in my life as well as I get older. History is what it is and we can't change that...only appreciate it.

Welcome back Karen! Where have you been?

As always, you make an interesting point. I have e-mailed back and forth with George several times and he said he's done several CRR but, never shot a CYS. He is supremely confident that he can do it. Mike "VRD" is considering having George do a CYS HK1 for him and I'm eager to see how it turns out. As, I've mentioned before, I figure I'm alright as long as I keep it an original HK1 color. Perhaps, I could be swayed if I saw a good CYS in person. Right now, CRR strikes me as a better color and I don't intend to resell the motorcycle.

Thanks...One of my cousin's had to have an emergency double bypass and after he was stabilized I unexpectedly had to go to the country to take care of some stuff for him that he couldn't do after his surgery..There is not internet down there and the cell service is spotty to say the least...That area still has "party line phones" LOL!... I have had major withdrawls from PMT!! HA!

I have no doubt that George could do an awesome paint job for you. The B/G he did for Mike is just amazing. He really captured the color in the photos too. I know that Mike is just as confident in George's abilities to do the CYS for him as well...Mike isn't going to have any blemish in his bikes I'm sure, and staying original with gorgeous paint jobs has kept his collection way above par.

I am hoping I get to see a couple of them in person this year at Mid-Ohio.

Mike is actually doing the opposite of me and changing a CRR to CYS.

Sorry, I didn't word what I was trying to say very well...I'm tired. I knew Mike was doing that...

What I meant to say is that it is so hard to find original HK1's in CYS that collectors like Mike are forced to change the more common Red HK1's to CYS in order to complete a collection.

I think so many people have repainted the CYS's to Red during the restoration process because of how hard the CYS color is to match that those bikes are becoming so much more rare than they even were to start with. From a $$ standpoint to a collector, history shows that they pay dearly for CYS's when they are done correctly. The CYS HK1's in good condition are fast becoming obsolete. In excellent condition...almost unheard of.

I hope this makes more sense his time!

Remember that CYS HK1 I sold to MRDI, George changed that to CRR, Awsome bike, I wasn't too swayed with the yellow either, but thats the only one I've owned, had lots of CRR HK1's, I never thought about that color being rare. I bought that CYS off Ebay, only bidder $600!

Actually I have an option to use a bike that is original CYS . I also have two K1 bikes that are both CYS . I will probably do both bikes at once . Both in their original colors (HK1 & K1 ) . Just need to find te time .

Mike, I'm sure the K1's yellow is different than the HK1's yellow

Are you sure? I thought they are the same.

I remember it well. The seller was from California. $600 was a steal. I was shocked it went for that little.
My Honda book calls the K1 Candy Yellow, and the HK1 Candy Yellow Special, My K1's all seemed to be a shade off the HK1 color, If I'm not mistaken Don's kits list a different color, but I can't pull up his site right now, if anyone can, please post the link

I may be wrong, hopefully someone can set this straight, Don's kits only offer CYS, here are a couple pics of other K1's I've had, guess it looks pretty close
