Hotter plug

I am writing this because I just recently got my 1967 Honda cl90 Resurrected and took it for a spin up the road but have noticed that the head and seems really hot I do understand that it is air-cooled and will get warm but the ambient temperature outside is probably 70 and I am running a d6ha plug but believe it called for a d8ha wasn't sure if that is okay or if it will make it run too hot any help would be much appreciated

The plug heat range topic was just covered, in some depth, within the past week...thought you might have found that discussion.

Plug heat range only relates to the rate at which the plug, itself, dissipates heat...so that it will reach & remain in the correct temp range, in that engine. Too cold, it'll load-up, too hot, the electrodes will overheat resulting in preigntion...or melted electrodes.

After sourcing the correct plug, I'd want to verify cylinder head temps. Find out if there's really problem before worrying about corrections. Guesswork isn't going to cut it.

If you don't have one already, get an infrared thermometer (I got one at Harbor Freight) and check your head with that. A leak at the intake will scorch the head into submission. I had a Harley over fifty years ago that had one, and you could see the red glow at night.
 
I thought I was using correct plug but then was told the correct plug is a little colder. I have a d6ha when from what I'm told uses a d8ha.

Also have been struggling to get the bike running Tip Top as the only way I can get it to open up and not sputter etc needs to have my points plate turn to the right almost all the way which when I did Static timing in order to get it to go off at the f mark I had to have my plate almost all the way to the right of the little circle with the line. It will run at the factory line but when going down the road half throttle to Full Throttle it sputters and stuff so I put it back to where I static timed it which was all the way to the right and it seems to open right up no problem but almost seems like my bike runs hot is that a possibility?

Kinda sounds like a stretched (worn out) timing chain, if the breaker point assembly is mounted to the head, like a CT90/110. If you're verifying timing with a light, then it needs what it needs. However, if it's way off from the normal range, it's best to find out why. There's no magic...these are just machines.
 
No it was done with a multi meter. And I had replaced timing chain so not sure. It is mounted to the head like you stated and also I adjusted the points again closing them a bit and was able to move points plate back quiet a ways not perfect lined up with the little line with circle but about half way now. Will running my timing like that make my engine run hotter than normal? Just seems like it gets hot fast and i do know its not liquid cooled just seems to heat up fast.
