Ignition switch removal

I have a 1979 honda ct70. I have two questions:

How do you remove the ignition switch part, because I took off the outer metal cap that screwed on to the part but you cant pull it out so just wondering how to do that.

Also on Dr Atv they dont have any ignition switches that will work with the 1979 supposedly. Only up to 76 and 91-94. Does anyone know why the other ones would not work with my bike.

Thanks,
Andrew

then push the lock INTO the frame not out of the frame. You should be able to trace it back to/from the harness after you follow the steps that mrichard had mentioned. Have you tried Bikebandit.com or TBParts.com ? I think Bikebandit would have it, thats where I bought mine, and it is definately a good value for a real NOS lock even though it was almost $50.

Thanks for the advice. I checked out the websites and I'm assuming a lock set is the ignition switch with the key. Also my bike is currently not using the ignition switch so is it just used to turn on the lights?

If your motorcyle runs with out an ignition switch, someome has modified the wire harness. You might have more work ahead of you repairing the wire harness to fit the switch again.

Yes hornetgod I just got the bike and the guy said that he didnt have the key so he may have tampered with the harness, HOWEVER I was reading on another post and some people were saying that the engine will start and run if you simply unplug the wires going to the ignition switch. My bike has the ignition switch but it doesnt have any keys, however still runs. All I do to start it is put the switch on the handlebar to engine and give it a kick... no keys

I will check sometime to see if the harness has been tampered with but hoping that those people were correct and that it has been simply unplugged from the ignition switch.

Did you ever find out if an ignition switch from an alternate year would work in your 1979 CT70? I have the same problem. Mine was stolen and recovered but the switch was removed by the thief. Now I can't find a replacement switch. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
