    Hello,

Work on my 70 Chevy El Camino has kept the mechanical and riding portions of my brain occupied for the last three years. Now that the EC has reached mechanical and street legal stability, I can get back to my mini's.

I recently bought a six volt battery and installed it today. Tires needed air and I checked the oil. I have always ran the no ethanol fuel in these bikes and it sure saved me here after the long layoff. I poured in some fresh no ethanol fuel, hopped on and she started with the second kick, settling into a fabulous idle RPM within maybe two minutes.

Heck, the clutch plates aren't even stuck together. One bike has come back from the dead, four more mini's to go.

Cool that your bike has come back from hibernation so well. Always a plus.

Btw, would love to see pics of the 70 EC. My favorite of the EL's is the 69 SS, but there's NOTHING wrong with the 70 in my book. Years ago, I tried to buy a 70 EC SS396, but was about 2K short. They wanted 9K for it( a total steal nowadays). It was 80% original, beautiful, mettalic blue, black bench, auto, functioning cowl hood, 12bolt(aftermarket 3:73), #'s matching, factory tach, with the black rallies and VERY sooped up, but looked factory on the outside. I drooled over that car when I saw it. Just idling, it sounded like "Poetry".lol. I looked that car over for about 2 hours and realized the paint/interior was original and I tried like hell to borrow the 2K. At the time, late 90's, I guesstamated it was well worth 15Kplus.

    Hello CJ,

Its not an SS but it does now have a 5.3 liter LS truck motor with a 4L60E overdrive transmission . . . and a cowl induction hood. The original 350 CI engine had been parked with plain water in the block - no antifreeze - back about 1983 which cracked that block very badly from frozen water. But the 5.3 LS starts easily, gets great gas mileage (2.73 diff gears) and still scoots pretty good. Its not original paint but does have a coat of 2017 GMC "Deep Ocean Blue" metallic paint and a set of metallic gray SS hood stripes. I did not do the body work or paint but I did do the engine/trans, fuel injection fuel tank and regulator, disk brake upgrades, all electrical, powertrain control module reprogramming, door panels, carpet, seats, Dakota Digital HDX SS dashboard, headliner, exterior trim and all new coil over front suspension.

Kinda' like the way my minis got resurrected, I tried to do at least 30 minutes of work on the EC every day. Its surprising how fast things can happen if at least a little work gets done every day.

    Rick

With all those upgrades, sounds like a sweet driving car.
