Inconsistent Idle

I got more questions. So I just rebuilt the carb on my 1979 CT70, and now I am just tuning it. But I cannot get it to idle consistently. It will idle for a bit and then just die. It did this before i rebuilt the carb, so i am thinking it does not have to do with the carb. I have adjusted the valves, but that is it. Is this a timing issue? Thanks for your help.

This Is the way I tune a carb. I have told another member this same thing as he was having carb problems as well. In your case try adjusting idle screw until your engine does not die out. Let the engine warm up. Go to air screw and turn clockwise until engine sounds like it is stalling out. Then turn air screw counterclockwise until the engine reaches its highest sounding idle or RPMs. Leave the air screw setting there. Now go back to idle screw and turn the idle down a bit until you hear a nice even idle. Try this and see if it works. If it does not then you may have other issues.
You may have too big of main jet installed, (What size is it?} or maybe an air leak around the intake.

Check to see if your battery is good. I had a similar problem and at the same time had a charging problem (blowing headlight bulbs). Turns out battery was no good, I replaced battery with a fresh one to solve the charging issue and both problems were solved - the idle has been fine ever since. I would not have thought they were related, but thought it was worth repeating the story here.
