I bought new glass, rubber glass gasket and stainless trim ring for my speedometer from CHP. The parts look and fit good. The glass goes into a grove around the gasket then the trim ring over that and on the housing where it needs to be bent over the bottom edge to stay in place. My question is do I use a silicone caulk on the glass edge before I install it in the gasket grove and best practice for crimping so it doesn’t look hacked.

I've used a hammer and drift on the back side of the bezel to peen the edge down. It must be done on a flat, sturdy surface. I have never cracked a glass lens and I have done about fifteen or twenty of these. The only time I cracked one was on removal. I don't use any silicone. The gasket should be sufficient to seal it if it's not dried out.

What do I know.... I got this. Just finished up. Used a flat block and hammer to go around the bottom. I think it looks okay. Tomorrow I will install it and see what I get. Thanks.

I've done north of 300 speedos over the past 20 years. Silicone is a huge mistake. I've seen it used...and outgas, clouding the cover glass.

Unusable gaskets are uncommon. The rubber is amazingly long-lived. As for opening & resealing those original bezels are stainless steel. They are thin but, if one has metalworking talent, a few specialized tools and a lot of patience they respond well to massaging.

Thanks all for the instructions. I installed it today and it’s okay. The CHP bezel had a smidge to much of a lip for my speedometer. It bent over nice enough but the extra metal turned down the side almost all around. If I was more skilled I may have been able to do better. I would say the parts are CHP quality so if you need them they will work nicely
