Old Guy Too Many Bikes

Well-Known Member
Yeah, got another little bike, total of 8 now. But I couldn't pass it up. Some guy started a project and gave up, I guess, and now it's mine. Been working on it a couple of weeks and now it's running great and street legal. It's a 1988 ZB50 that's got a Zongshen 190 5speed stuffed in it, with some Grom clone parts thrown it. Put a Nibbi 28 on it,

and it's smooth and stupid fas

t. I hope I don't break that 420 chain. Still needs a lot of detail work.

so what grom parts did you use? That front fender is interesting...what's that from? Also, what is the tail light setup from? I'm trying to wrap up a zb50 project and i don't have a good soluton for the rear tail light section yet. The original front fender is still available from honda.

If you are looking for original ZB50 parts, I have some leftovers...handlebars, footrest, the headlight bracket hanger, wiring harness, exhaust header and mid pipe, brake lever,

I was told the front fender was off a Grom clone. I have no idea what the tail light was off. I made the sheet metal for the seat and mounts for the turn signals. That bike is pretty small and I'm 6' 2", so I moved the foot pegs one inch forward and two inches down. So I made a bracket for the brake pedal since I didn't want to cut up and weld the original. I'm interested in your stock brake arm/pedal. Let me know how much including shipping, I'm at 91709. I'm gonna put a 120/90-10 on the rear and a 3.50-10 on the front. That should make it a lot more stable at speed. I've only had it up to about 55, but there's a lot of power still on tap.

I could do 40 shipped on the brake arm.
Id suggest a 110/90-10 tire up front the 3.5 is going to be 3” shorter than the rear and it will handle like shit. I run that size front and rear and its stable for me north of 50.

I grafted a grom brake lever onto my ne of my zb but that was pretty extensive to do. If you have a lathe and welder thats a good option.

My other zb i put rearsets on that lowered the pegs about 2.5” and back about 5. At 5’9” it is way more comfortable. I have a kickstand issue though as i need to think how to handle that.

I put 3.50-10 in the front and a 120/90-10 in the rear. Handles very well and help to lower the rpm a bit. 17 / 32 sprocket and it still pulls hard in every gear, plus cruising at 50 is smooth and effortless. where are you located, I'd like to go $40 are the brake arm.

I have a cheap chinese 125cc engine in this one, geared 18/33 with the 110/90-10 tires. I dont have the speedo dialed in just yet, but theoretically will do 60mph at 8000 rpm. Your 190 should pull 18/29 without too much issue if you wanted to reduce the RPM more.

An 18 won't fit on the 190, and I don't know if a smaller sprocket will fit in the rear. I put a 30 on the rear of my CT70, but I couldn't find one cheap and made one out of two sprockets using my lathe and welded them together. That 120/90 is 18 inches tall and may be enough.
