Missing Timing Pointer

1972 CT90. Got it in a Trade. Just doing the basics like Valve Lash, points and Timing. All diagrams or videos indicate it should be in the 4 o'clock area of the Stator. But there is nothing there and nothing to indicate that there ever was anything there.....no screw holes, indentation, glue marks or anything. Had to "ballpark" using an ohmeter. It would be nice to know if I'm slightly advanced or retarded.......ha, ha, no smart remarks now!!

The term you are referring to is ignition challenged. Is the problem that you can't find the "T" and "F" marks or that you can't find the notch that they line up to. If you got the bike in a trade, all I can say Mr. Hamburger, is "well done".

The notch is on the stator, as he stated, the "T" and "F" marks rotate with the, wait for it, rotor LOL

Thanks. Got it for 3 cords of split and seasoned Birch. (its $400/cord up here in British Columbia.

So yes I can see the T and F clearly on the Rotor but my Stator has no pointer on it like everyones pictures......however the position of it does appear to be directly in line with the cover plate hole. So for now I will use that as my "pointer" Perhaps its an aftermarket stator?

Ok on closer inspection I found my timing mark at the 3 o'clock position like this youtube video. Its not a pointer its a "dot" on the stator.

Glad I found this forum. I ran into this exact problem today working on a friends 76. I thought the timing mark was missing from a replaced stator or had broken off. After a carb clean and setting the static timing by using the bolt hole center as the alignment mark it is running but out of time and hot. took the timing advancer apart and the TDC mark and the cam sprocket timing mark align with the dot on the stator. Now I have to redo the static timing.
