Then I think you have your answer. They K0 bars are rare yes in that they are different than any other z50 bars. Would k1-k2 bars look fine on it? Yes.

K1/2 bars will have a few useless holes in the left side bar that you may have to explain when you're showing off your fine K0 Z50.
If you wouldn't mind having a few useless holes in your bars, maybe you wouldn't mind having a few scrapes and scratches in your bars either...just until your ready to spend the extra 150 to have them chromed.

This isn't going to be a show piece by any means. I actually already bought the CHP repo bars but was thinking I could chrome powder coat the original ones just to keep as many original parts as possible.

I think you will be happy with CHP bars. Will a purist notice they aren't really k0 bars? Probably. Will your friends or people you show at swap meets? Probably not. The question is can YOU live with it?

They definitely look nicer than what I have. I don't want to shoot myself in the foot. When I first got the bike I noticed the switch was broke and was going to toss it, glad I didn't do that.

Do you guys know what the number stamped on the inside of the left rear dropout represents? The number on the outside of the drop out was removed in the past.

According to Jeremy Polson's mini trail book that is build date of the frame. Yours 81212 is December 12 1968. There is the same thing under the rear rubber pad mount of the gas tank too,so you can date your tank.

Hey guys, picked up another 68’ z50 # 116966 and had a couple q’s. This bike has a lot of differences than the other 68’ I have. Things like the bolts aren’t labeled with an 8 and have a round logo, coil is solid grey and not marbled looking, and the handle bar clamp has extra notches in it. Were there a lot of changes within the same year or are these parts incorrect?

Those parts are incorrect. Wrong bolts, and I'd check to be sure they are at least the correct size/thread.
Coil is likely from a newer Z50..?
Handlebar clamp is from a CT70.
