I've been looking at seat covers as well. Does the gumtwo have the correct number of seams on the top? I thought I counted a few extra....possibly I am wrong.
Oh man I hope so, prior posts recommended that seller. A supposedly unmolested ST just sold on ebay, that one showed 10 panels. Hope the gumtwo pic was just and example not the actual product.

I have to agree houredout401. The front and side seams are correct, much better quality than others I have purchased, but has ~12 "pleats" vs. about 9 on 99% of the K0/HK0 seat covers I have seen.

Oh well, I can chalk up this day as another learning experience. I was so focused on the quality and seams that I overlooked the number of panels.

Someone just listed an NOS seat on ebay
Thanks, I almost pulled the trigger but was a bit leery of the (1) no photos and (2) seller had some negative ratings, not to mention paying $265 when all I need is a cover. I took a chance on another ebay seat cover seller for $23. Has the right number of panels and vinyl looks to be of the same type as my original seat cover. Of course, I f'ed it up, not reading the directions carefully and putting the prongs through the wrong part of the seat cover - and now have ordered another one. As for gumtwo, very good seller, he is providing a refund, and for those who don't care about the number of panels, Id say the gumtwo is the better quality of the two I have purchased. So now I have three areas that are not genuine - the aftermarket black levers, rear shocks and seat cover. Will have to address those later.

I too looked at the new seat on eBay. I just thought it had a smell to it. I have bought a few things from them but not thru e-Bay. No issues at all. I feel your pain on the seat cover; I screwed up the first seat cover I tried to install on a soft tail.

Question on the washers used on the bolts to hold fuel tank bracket and battery bracket - fiche says plain flat washers, but my bike had split lock washers. Can anyone confirm that fiche is correct with the plain washer?

The KO & HKO parts manual I have show just plain washers for the fuel tank bracket, but plain and lock washers for the battery bracket. No idea if a silver tag is different or not.

Next detail is the muffler mounting bracket. Ive seen reference on this site, as well as being shown on the parts fiche, that some ST's had the 90-degree bracket that did not use the "hex nut extender" off of the engine bolt. My ST did not have the original muffler so I don't know if the mounting bracket was changed. I don't think it was based on the patina of the hex nut extender and the use of large "8" bolts, but who knows. Per the parts fiche, the 90 degree bracket was used until serial number 102xxx, so im thinking the correct bracket for my 103xxx bike would be the newer less offset bracket - but can I trust that parts fiche?

My ST is 104xxx and it has the extended muffler front stay nut along with the shallow muffler stay.

Actually, my 1046xx had what was left of the 90 degree dogleg type bracket. Still, I would go with the parts fiche.

I have a 10049XX silver tag and I also have smooth chrome bolts on the fork. I bought it from the original owner 46 years ago. For what it's worth, there is only one side (outside) to the header pipe guard. That is also original.

So the one piece header is a completely different part, not just one side of the two-piece part? Is it held on by separate clamps or are the clamps built in?

Here is a picture. The clamps are integral with the guard and a separate piece of the assembly attaches to those clamps with a screw.

Man, yours looks great red69. Mighty clean ST.

Houredout you might see where the change occurred with that part in the parts fiche too. I'm thinkin you need the early guard to be correct.

Partzilla fiche only shows one part. Service Honda, which shows most superceded parts shows an original part no. of 18271-098-671. Anyone with original parts manual, or even better, that guard? I will rechrome.
