Hey all,

i found this lil gem (I think) 1970 CT 70 with a title. I was looking for a lil toy to ride with my son, whose getting a dirt bike for Christmas. I just remember how much fun I had riding one of these growing up and how much abuse we gave it but it kept on running. Anyhow, thankful for this site since I have no mechanical ability and plan on fixing this lil ride up a bit. Here's a few picks.

Congrats. Nice one there. Looks like someone already replaced some parts for you. That bike looks like it will clean up easily and be a decent rider. Rider's are the best to have IMO. How many miles?

Welcome, its nice finding a bike with title. Looks like you have a silver tag or a early black tag bike. Able to tell by where the tail light wires come up through the frame, the wire exit location changed in the early 1970s I believe. The black/silver tag refers to the color of the tag on the steering neck. If you have a most black one with the build month/year and VIN on it its considered black tag, the silver tags were a silver background and I don't believe had the VIN or month/year on it. Does it currently run? A oil change, valve adjust, and cam chain tension check wouldn't hurt to do for peace of mind. There is also a centrifugal oil filter behind the right side clutch cover that often gets overlooked when it comes to maintenance. cjpayne did a nice write up on that process found here: http://lilhonda.com/webboard/showthread.php?t=19143

Thanks for the reply, it's got 4,400 on it. Starts up on first kick and having a good time cruising the neighborhood with my kids and without...

Thanks for this info. It has the black tag and it's definitely running but I am wanting to learn how to take care of it. Any suggestions on basic tool set needed for maintenance on these bikes? I've got the tool set that comes with the bike under the seat which I thought was pretty cool.

Tools that come to mind are: Flywheel puller, feeler gauge that can go to .002" to do valves, 4 prong socket to take off the special nut that holds the clutch on (this won't need to come off to clean the centrifugal filter, but it will need to come off to change clutch plates and sometimes this nut comes loose from use or previous owner not tightening it properly. Impact screwdriver (type you hit with hammer) with JIS bits. When changing oil, its the larger of the two bolts on the bottom, 17mm head. The other 14mm head bolt holds the cam chain tensioner springs/rod in.

Things that thread into the motor strip easy, some of the common ones are, foot peg bolts, spark plug, intake pipe to head bolts, and intake pipe to carb bolts, so take care when starting them and tightening them.

Definitely a set of JIS screwdrivers as recommended above - Japanese Industrial Standard. You need the #1, 2 and 3 bits for our bikes and McMaster Carr has a set of three Vessel brand drivers that I can't live without.
