Just so Sir .

If I wasn't so fat any of my Honda 90's would (barely) carry me at the speed of 55 MPH, I used to ride them on the freeways when the commuter traffic kept the overall speeds down and covered large distances easily and inexpen$ively on them .

About that Lucas Prince Of Darkness Ride :

So ;

Once again it was time for the annual So. Cal. Norton Club's fun sunset ride, I dragged the tarp off my 1975 BMW R60/6 and cleaned it up, made sure it was running well and topped off the fuel and tires, met the fellas at "EAT" on Los Feliz Blvd .

Just barely visible behind the white car was a 2007 Bloor Triumph Tiger with Cozy Sidecar made in India .

Lots of great old bikes, Nortons and Bib's Vincent plus my friend Steve on his classic 196? BMW R50/2 in white .

At 8PM we were KSU and on our way, I had figured to follow the side car as I no longer ride quickly in the dark but it whizzed past me so that was that .

Steve kindly followed me as I was plodding along in spite of the excellent 7" H4 headlamp on my Beemer .

Traffic was pretty light so we made good time to the world (in)famous Mulholland Drive, after a few short if seriously twisty blocks most of the auto traffic thinned out or let us go on by and we were riding along in the cool fresh air occasionally able to look out over the San Fernando Valley or North to West Los Angeles .

Approaching the Laurel Canyon intersection we encountered the down hill right canted pavement to be flooded by someone's excess watering of plants, this always concerns me as Motocycles and wet pavement are fraught with peril, the traffic light began to change just before I reached it and rather than brake hard I accelerated and the light turned red *just* as I entered the intersection but thankfully no one jumped the green so I was able to make it across okay .

Behind me I heard the sliding sound of tires loosing traction and the onward facing driver tooted his horn at me and waved frantically so I pulled over and looked back to see Steve's beautiful old Beemer on it's side and Steve sitting on the pavement .

A pair of L.A.P.D. cruisers (SUV's) had just passed us going the other way and were apparently following to ensure our "group of bikers" weren't up to no good nor scaring the residents there, they stopped right behind Steve's fallen bike to ensure he was safe from traffic .

Steve got up and began to hold his right shoulder with his left hand and said "I think I broke my collar bone when I fell" .

In short order an L.A.F.D. truck pulled up behind the police cars and they began checking out Steve, gave him a concussion test, a heart & blood pressure test and put a cloth sling on his right arm to ease the weight/pain .

Shortly thereafter an L.A.F.D. meat wagon rolled up and they loaded Steve up and took him away .

I only had *one* Club member's phone # and they'd all missed everything so I texted them and sat down beside Steve's slightly damaged BMW :

The rocker box had -one- fin snapped off and the usual grinding marks, no oil leaks , no damage to the Albert mirrors not the bar end turn signals .

Eventually the rest of the group got my text and headed back, when they arrived the BMW was closely inspected and determined to be safely ride able so they parked it safely off the sidewalk and went to go get a spare key and Uber back to ride it home .

I didn't get home until after 10:30PM, took a shower and read some texts from Steve who was thankfully O.K. .

As Mitchell said : "our Club rides are never boring" = .

We need to do this ride again as we never quite made it to dinner .

Update:
Screws and parts came in from CMS.
Going to begin later this week. I'll keep you posted.
Would you suggest a new thread, since we got off topic for a bit and the entire thread is quite long?
