Plugged gas or carb vent hole found. Rebuild. How to clean?

Enginedoctor's great tutorial on CT70 carb rebuild says to blast the gas and carb vent holes with cleaner and compressed air. The vent hole that bleeds to the manifold from the carb bowl (first of the two photos of vents that must be clear) is plugged solid. Has been soaked in berryman's and hit with aerosol cleaner and 100PSI compressed air. Still plugged. WIll try a flexible wire to clean but the 90 degree turn is problematic.Appears there's a staked brass plug closing the passage where the castng was drilled to create the vent. Is my only choice to drill out the staked brass plug to allow me to literally drill out the crud to clear the passage then restake and seal the drilling access hole?
DOn't know better how to describe this or ask.
Thaks. Don
