Im looking to swap out the gold down bars on my ct70 for some mx style bars. I want to see some pictures of different bars on a style of bike similar to mine to get the feel of how it would look. Help if ya can!

You're in the minority on this...but not alone, by any means. The `79-later bikes had fixed, bmx-style, bars as stock equipment. Easiest way to make the change from foldable, to fixed, bars would be sourcing a triple tree, risers and bars from a `79-later CT70, not the easiest items to find. But, they do pop up on feebay, you just need patience and a little luck. If your front end is a K0, this will be much more difficult; in fact, it'd be easier to swap the entire front end...unless you have, or have access to, machining talent capable of fabbing a billet top tree.

Here's a coupla stockers and a lotta customized bikes.

Thanks for the pics! Yeah I know I’m in the minority but what the hell I could give it a shot and switch back if need be. I have the hydraulic front end with billet top plate and it would be extremely easy for me to swap. I would just need a slightly shorter throttle cable. I also do a lot of trail riding and have a lot of problems with flex and bars coming loose. The bars positioning also aren’t the greatest for the type of trail riding I do. They’re more lay back style and nearly impossible to stand up on comfortably with. Also with the custom seat I am making will pair nice with mx or bmx bar style.

Nothing wrong with being in the minority, especially when you've got a sound plan in mind. There are some highly-experienced members on this board who dislike the folding bars. To each his own, I reckon. You're coming at this with some clear goals, a systematic approach to modifications and willingness to change things that don't work as well as you'd like...that's an outline for success, imho.

Initially, I missed the fact that you had changed-over to a Chinese front end assembly; that does make a difference and it mostly has to do with the bar clamp/bar tab interface. I still think that the self-loosening handlebar knob issue could be solved. If you can live with fixed-position handlebars, blue Loctite & fresh lockwashers ought to do the trick, and on the cheap. That said, one advantage bmx bars do offer is fore/aft adjustability, something that's not possible with the OEM-type folding bars.

The CT70 seat is an odd duck among bike seats. That center hump, required for structural strength, also leaves the foam padding ~1" thinner in the worst possible place. I recommend using a makeshift cover so that you can test new foam configurations on the seat-of-the-pants dyno...literally...before committing the changes to vinyl, or leather. IDK, your type of usage may make seat comfort less of an issue than it is for a hardcore road rider (like yours truly). I can tell you, from firsthand experience, making one of these seats comfortable and visually thin, is anything but easy.

As for wanting to retain most of the stock(ish) lines of the original, while upgrading/changing things, does this strike any familiar chords?

I am pretty sure you can get what you need (if running pogo front end) from z50 aftermarket. Mike Razzo uses them all the time. Look him up and his builds and you'll fnd that he never uses the fold down bars and uses both pogo and non pogo front ends.

I think that's the first time I've seen a closeup of that cooler Bob...that's pretty neat looking right there!

Thanks, guys! I guess that this cooler has been in place so long, I scarcely notice it, let alone give it a thought, anymore. The setup was pieced-together from two, different, CF Posh kits, plus a single banjo fitting. It's just the right capacity for the application, stoutly constructed, and very easy to clean. The mounting brackets were fabbed from soft aluminum, easy (2.5 on a 1-10 difficulty scale) and about as simple as they get.

Does this mean the reverse is also true? Because I want to replace the fixed handlebars on my 1992 bike with folding handlebars. Because I need to put it in the car frequently.

Mine is 1991 ct70, it’s fixed bar. But I like foldable bar cause I always need put it in my car. So does the foldable bar of 70’ fit 90’ ?
Actually, the point is not bar, it’s the top plate.
But I am not sure if the 70’ top plate fit 90’. So anyone knows?

And anyone want my 1991 original handlebar?

@69ST is not going to reply to your posts. I have a 71 and 91 CT70 - I can compare the top plates for you, but its gonna be a bit. What about the kill & turn signal switches? I'm not sure if there are mounts/holes that those would attach to on K0 style bars. Seems like you overcame your problem with the Prius photo I just saw, haha
