    1980 z50

    Guys,
Here is my 1980 Z50. I bought this bike years ago as a basket case got it running cleaned it up and sold it a couple years later. I then bought it back a year or so later and after a few years of piddling with it I noticed the frame was worn out where the swingarm bolted up so I took it apart found another frame and went a little crazy. I stripped everything to the bare metal powdercoated the frame, forks, handle bars and all of the little parts, painted the tank and side cover to match my race car. I changed every bolt to Stainless Steel. Added an aluminum Swingarm, Aluminum wheels, Street tires and front Disc Brakes. I welded the side cover brackets off of a 1976 so I could use the sidecover. I used Fenders off of the older Z50's as I like the chrome fenders better then the orange stuff. I used a headlight assembly and speedometer off of a 1972 CT70H model so it would match the 4 speed on the engine. I basically built a 1978 1/2 bike. :4: I have the wide seat, fat tank and handle bars of the later Z50R's and the Chrome fenders, Side Cover and lights from the older Mini Trails. I did add a 140 engine with a ported head and aftermarket cam from Terry at Firepower Minis just so it would run good. It buries the needle on the speedo pretty easy now without really trying hard. I also added a MiniGunz exhaust since the pictures were taken. I built the bike that I wish Honda would have built. I hope you guys like it.

Ya know, when I was 10 years old, I got my first ever turn to drive a minibike. My buddies parents had one for each of their kids, and one day they were riding them, and I got to drive one. I was hooked on these bikes before my ass ever hit the seat. And the first mini bike I ever rode, was exactly like your red one. Same color, same year, or very close to it. That was 38 years ago, and seeing that bike again just brought back that feeling. I'll just never forget that thrill. I simply could not believe at 10 years old, I was having the privelege of riding something that I didn't have to pedal.
Thanks for your awesome work, and makeing me relive that memory. I remember how in awe I was over this machine, everytime I looked into that pretty deep red color. There was simply nothing else like it on earth.:77:

After years of building "pit bikes" for my son to race I now have time for me. Got this one from an old farmer and after 30 min with the power washer this is what I had.

I put two new tubes in, and new Honda petcock, Honda brake lever and a carb kit. It's like new now and can run me around the property like I'm a kid again. Wait til I finish my Z50A K1!!!!!

New member here. Great website! Learning so much. Testing my photo attachment abilities. Here is a recent barn find '72 I picked up. Seems to be complete? It will get a teardown and detailing this winter. I am so fired up. I had one as a kid!

Here is what Santa dropped off for me this year.... all original 1980 Z50R. Other than the front number plate missing, she is all there. A mild revamp will be happening this winter.

New Member Here! Here are my "Three Sisters". One is a 72, two are 70/71, and none of them have the original 50cc engine. I had them replaced with 110cc because I needed more power to pull my 270# frame........ replaced the K3 tank with a K1 clone tank because I like the look better. added stiffer shocks to the '72. Wheels on the two 70/71's are badly rusted and dirty. Am looking to find replacements in time. But, for now..... they all run great and the family enjoys riding them.
