Here's a link to a thread on the subject.

http://lilhonda.com/webboard/f11/whot-does-mean-ben-8556/

Any member can add to or take away from you Rep Power by clicking on the Star Badge just below that persons post in any thread. One catch, you can only add Rep Power once to each member.

You can see who added or removed Rep Power and their comments by clicking on the settings tab in the top right corner of the web page. I gave you some Rep Power and added a comment. Check it out!

Flash its just another ego think for some of the posters, I hope just because someone has a large rep number no one thinks they actually know what they are talking about.

Which is a perfect example the system is seriously flawed with manufactured input causing it to be completely unreliable, useless and misleading.

It is a feature that comes with the vB software. If it bothers you that much, I suggest you don't use it. In fact, why not write the vBulletin developers and express your concerns with them? Perhaps they will make changes to their "seriously flawed, completely unreliable, and useless" software in time for the next update.

Cute. Are you a politician? Or lawyer? Good job misquoting me to lead readers astray to a misconception I think the system *itself* is flawed. I was referring to the seriously flawed, completely unreliable, and useless INFORMATION it gets from members related to other members.

I don't need to get a hold of them, it can be disabled.

But you already knew that.

"I decided to enable this feature..."

Can't you choose just not to use that feature? I know on several of the other sites they have the option of which features to use and which to ignore.

I should have said 'feature' and not software, although you are missing the point anyhow. Obviously you are entitled to your own opinions, but don't think that I am going to disable a feature of the website because one or two individuals express an extreme dislike (or ignorance) towards it.

Still trying to figure out why you even posted in this thread. We have a member who asks a valid question about one of the features on the board and he is presented with a solid answer from HG. You can either help the user out by answering his question or save the negative and unhelpful comments for another forum. You seem like a very intelligent and knowledgeable person, so why do you continue to make posts that encourage mudslinging and resentment?

"you are entitled to your own opinions"

"You can either help the user out by answering his question or save the negative and unhelpful comments for another forum"

So if you perceive my opinion as negative, its not allowed? Or shouldn't be? WTF? MY OPINION is the rep 'feature' is not used as intended. Simple as that.

"make posts that encourage mudslinging and resentment"

Was not my intention and I'm confused as to what led you to believe otherwise.

You may want to try'n divert zeroing in on me and answer some of the questions put forth in this thread.

Ben, I believe there may be many on this forum that believe this is a useless function, but are afraid to rock the boat. It seems to breed competition among poster to answer every post whether they know anything or not about the problem posted. In an endless battle for more post and larger rep. Maybe if there were no rewards for most post or useless reps we would end up with real post that answer real problems, not check e-bay or I really don't have an answer but. I'm not trying to pick on any one poster but there have been alot of stupid post that answer nothing. In an effort to make the forum better, with some real help, this just might help some, and it could not hurt. Maybe just a simple vote could decide what everyone thinks and wants in their forum.

I don't see why it bothers you guys so much. If you think it is useless and don't like it then ignore it. there it is SIMPLE. I don't care what it says, if you do then maybe you are insecure. heck i did not even notice the feature was there for much of the time ive been on the site.

let it rest! the initial question has been answered perhaps this thread should be closed

OR maybe if this thread bothers you that much maybe you should just not read it. But at least you have expressed your opinion, although you didn't take your own advice.

I think Flash makes a very good point and made a good follow up response to HG's actions. He is merely pointing out that the rep points are useless when someone gives rep points to someone asking what rep point are " I gave you some Rep Power and added a comment. Check it out!" Kind of seems silly to get rep points for asking what rep points are, doesn't it? Now giving someone rep points for for identifying there is a flaw in the system would make more sense. JMHO

Here's one, I have 11 rep points. But I have 2 green bars. some people have one bar and more rep points. there might be people with more green bars and fewer rep points. is there a conection between rep points and green bars? I find if I agree with someone alot I can only give them points once.

OK, what are the green bars for? Oh, and will I get some rep points for asking? :)

Thanks BITD - exactafrickinlutely what I was trying to put forth. Evidently we have numerous questions and misunderstandings about this "feature"...
