Restored Old Yamaha

My uncle recently came out of 'restore retirement" and restored this beautiful old Yamaha 2 stroke for his boss, Randy. Randy turns 50 this Saturday and his kids got my uncle to restore his old bike. I dont know exactly what it is but its a two stroke, its old, starts first kick, and its MINT.

Sorry for the iPhone pics but I just had to share. Turns out Yamaha bikes arnt cheap to restore either.

Looks to be an (excellent!) old "Three-oh-five" (305) they made in the day. Nice but still a two-stroke....:13:

See one can even tighten the steering stem from the handlebar area. :3:

I do remember the old tightening of the handlebars.A friend of mine had a Benelli (i think) that had the same set up.

Does anyone know what year that bike is? When Harry said 305, I was thinking of the Honda Dream, it does kinda look like that.

I have a 72 Yamaha xs1b 650 and a 69 CL175 and they both have the handlebar knob on them. When did that "knob" start and stop for bikes?

Your Uncle did a GREAT JOB!! That was an awesome idea/gift from Randy's kids and it looks like they picked the right guy for the restoration. Was the bike in bad shape to start with?

Karen, I still want that Yamaha!!!
Don

If I sell it YOU are getting the first call...I promise!

I'm going to the MC salvage yard this week...After looking all over the country for an original chrome ignition, I found one 30 minutes from my home!! It even has the KEY! He says he has tank and side cover badges in excellent shape, so that will make the bike complete. The Original Owner still can't find what he did with those parts when he took them off to polish!!
