Shifter shaft question / discrepancy

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a “new shifter shaft” my terminology may be wrong and the nw one doesn’t have the washer on the en like my old one. Iv attached some pics of them. Did I order the wrong part or is that a piece that has been eliminated over the years? Will the one I have work? Thanks for all the info.

That is just the newer type. I think the washer was short lived...only went on the really early bikes. If you take close measurements...I'm betting you'll find the shafts are made differently...not sure about that tho.
But, I think you should be good to go.

Good to know, I’m gonna take some measurements tomorrow just for the fun of it. I’ll post my findings. Iv found both parts offered online but couldn’t find a reason why they where different.
