SL70 Block on a CT70 frame sputters while revving

Hello,
Sorry if this has been addressed in many other posts but I can't seem to find the answer and or the things that have been suggested have not worked so I am turning to the experts.

Background: It is a 1979 CT70 frame, carb, head, cylinder and piston with a 1970 or so SL70 block or lower end. Everything worked good when it was all ct70 a few years ago before I took it all a part for restoration. I fix these small engined bikes and for the most part am pretty good at getting them going into fun reliable machines. Doing this I swap & trade parts into different configurations.

This block however with different top ends and carbs has this nagging sputter when it gets to running temperature while revving. It might be coincidental but I have adjusted the points so many different ways with less than great results it gets better or worse but not smooth.

The SL70 has a mechanical advance and no condensor. Should I install a condensor since the CT's had them? Can there be something wrong with the block that changes after it gets hot? I want to use the sl70 block for the manual 4 speed as it is cooler and more manly:19:!

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Happy Mini Trails to you.

Hey Blown 331,
Thanks for the reply, Its interesting if you look at the parts breakdown (from original fiche) it is not in the picture and it lists the condensor as NI, whatever that means. Putting one in is certainly easy enough.

sl70's had condensors....some years they were on the backing plate and some years they were co-located with the coil. It needs one...
