ST 90 engine I.D

Hey Folks,

In the past year I bought two 74' ST 90's. On one engine it has an ID ST90E 1107634 and the shift pattern is 3 down. The other has an ID ST90E 1105675 and the shift pattern is three up. Is one of the engines from a different year? Did they make a mid-year engine change. Could someone have put a different transmission in? I am a ct 70 guy. Any answers?

My 75 is three speeds up and it has the original engine. I also do not like its tranny as well as my CT90 because 1st gear in the ST is really low and 2nd gear is a little too high. Third gear is just right for high speed on the road but I sure wish it had four gears like my other CT90 bikes.
