Strange carb cleaning help

So this carb has set for about 4 months in the shop while I was out of town. The carb was stuck when I got home and the bowl is full of this white powder stuff. I am converting my HF sand blast cabined over to a vapor blaster, so I tried some dry soda blasting on the inside of the bowl and it is coming off slowly. But I have no idea what it is or how it got there. The engine starts right up with a shot of starting fluid, and the tank is clean, the pet cock is clogged, maybe with the same stuff, I haven't tried it yet. Any ideas on the best way to clean it off??

When discussing carburetors, some folks refer to that stuff as "white death"...because it usually means the death of the part. I believe that it's basically aluminum rust...oxidation. caused by years of sitting full of acidic water...old fuel, etc. Yours looks pretty bad. You'll likely find a lot of missing metal when you get it blasted out of there. Maybe best to just salvage anything that's good, and find a better part to put your time into.

That doesn't happen in 4 months tho...I don't think.

X2 with kirrbby.
Even if you blast that stuff out, all the little passage ways will still have that stuff in it. If you do get that carb to work right, please post how you did it.

Carb cleaner can eat aluminum if left too long. If you didn't get it all cleaned out of the inside of the carb...maybe that could have caused the corrosion..?
