Here's my new favorite model lol.:10: Only 390 miles, that's rare to find IMO. Will anxiously wait for the final selling price.
No title will ship from Reno.

The Dax side has the "white/lady" Dax, we have the black `78 model CT70. Both are destined to become iconic versions of their respective models. You just cannot go wrong with basic black, on a classic collectible vehicle. White, red & silver all kinda vie for second place on the color list. Those are the only color choices that stand outside of fashion trends/fads...and only one is actually a color. The rest are monochromatic choices.

Both of the feebay bikes shown are screaming deals. Replacing/redoing all of the chrome, unobtainium and one-year-only details, from scratch can easily top $2K. That's without touching anything else, like the motor, body/paint, exhaust, wheel assemblies, etc. K3-`78 models can be the most expensive to restore. A pristine, sub-500 mile original, should be worth ~$4500, with title. The market hasn't yet caught-up with 2015 economic reality and lack of paper is gonna hurt. Can you say "investment potential"?

I think this Reno bike is great but there are small scratches on the paint near the decal top and scuff on the rear blinker & seat. May have been laid down ever slightly. Blinker on that side is tweaked but all this is nit picky. I think this bike would be a great investment too and would leave it be.

$1500.oo bid but reserve not met, maybe set at 2k.

I've never seen a 78 key, mine was missing. Is this what they looked like? Has a hole in the middle or maybe it's a newer re-cut one?

Sweet bike indeed. May I ask why these are so rare? Just not many made?
Let's see if I can answer this w/out sounding like too much of an idiot:21:

The 1978 CT70 was the last year of the folding chrome handlebars, the chrome fenders too. The last year to use the helmet holder. The 78 was the last year for having zero smog equipment. I'm sure there are a few more 'last of' but that's all I can think of right now. The color BLACK was only avail for this 78 model year. *also last of the chrome engine frame shield.
Lot's of changes from this to the 79 model.

As far as numbers sold, I know they were not a lot but somebody could give more detail, I'm sure.:bowl:

IMO, the black 78 model is VERY desireable, but there were only 1000's made, not 10,000's like the earlier models. There's a thread somewhere by Hornetgod disclosing those numbers. Rare doesn't mean expensive, but desireable AND rare drive the price up. These are also very hard to source their "special" parts too, which can drive restoration costs way up. Finding a nice original IS a find indeed.

I was very lucky to have picked up my 78 at an estate auction five years ago. It had been very well stored away since 1980 by the original owner along with furniture and other items in a climate controlled storage center. Other than missing the factory mirrors and a cracked speedo glass it was complete and in near mint condition. After cleaning the carb and flushing the fuel tank the bike started very easily from it's 30 year nap. Build date on the tag is 5/77, serial #2700577 and engine #2700578..LOL it even has a NY county sticker on the forks that ended in #577 that I've never removed. Personally the 78 has become my favorite model CT70 and not just because I own one. I'd never even seen a 78 until I found this one and fell in love with it at first sight. Again I was lucky because as it turned out I was the only one interested in the little bike during the auction and was able to pick it up for the opening bid of 200 dollars...Yes I was very happy that day and still am with the bike. It still sports it original points and spark plug and starts on the first kick. I've run the mileage up to 1100 from the 400 it had when I first got it and it's never had any real issues other than a bad rear tire. Well that and a frozen left folding handlebar that defied all attempts at coming loose until last year when I noticed it rattling one day while I was going down the road. Seems it decided to free up on it's own and after a little shot of oil unscrewed and works just fine now. I'd buy another 78 if another shows up in my area but After 5 years I've not seen another turn up around here but I still keep an eye out for one.

Holy Sh*T Batman, you are one lucky Hombre. A 1978 CT70 for 2C notes. I've got $375 into mine so far but as the wise man once said "Who Gives a Fuck":21:

But I know what you mean, the 78 and the RR K0 are my favorites right now. The thing with the Black frame is it has a definite vintage look, (like an old Triumph) especially with the right amount of chrome. I might use a K0 muffler like you did also.

Weird that your bike’s engine & frame numbers are just one apart. Mine is Fifteen apart but that could insinuate they just didn’t have that many made in their production run.

Glad I went to the dark side. :3:

Did anyone on here buy that 78 that was for sale in Phoenix ,AZ a few weeks ago? That one was listed on Craigslist for $2,200 but I think it had over 3,000 miles. It looked mostly original but not as nice as this one

2700 miles, front signals AWOL, can't see any detail...like the condition of the headlight ears. You're a bit optimistic, Marco, imho. I see $1200-1500 tops, if just the right buyer happens along. You never know, though, someone really horny for a `78 might be willing to go north of $2K and it wouldn't be a total ripoff, at that, unless there's some undisclosed damage.
