My brother and I (mostly him) just finished a complete rebuild of a 1970 k0. It started on the second kick but sounds like the new timing chain is rattling. We shut it off tried stretching the spring and still have the same noise. Looking for the correct new tentioning spring and cover but having a hard time locating. Ebay has a bunch of used ones which not interested. DRatv and partzilla are out. Bike is for my wife so really want it right. Thank you.

If your motor is a true k-0 it will not have two springs…the k-1 an up motors had two springs and a adjuster (#10 in pic) i would pull the mag and stator back off and make sure the chain is on all the rollers. Also with stator off you will be able to see if chain is tight…you could have wrong chain if you replaced? DrATV sold be wrong chain years ago that was too long..not sure what it was for but I’m thinking a ct90…maybe I ordered it wrong not sure? I always check mine before I install stator plate..also if you installed the oil pump drive sprocket on backwards it might make noise? It’s offset just a little..

Thanks!! Going to do a little more investigating based on this feedback. The 1970 K0 does in fact have only one spring. I found and ordered a new one from CHP and a cam cover. I bought the bike from the original owner and have all the maintenance records. It had been in his basement for the last 22 years.

Also...if you installed a NEW cam chain...there is typically NO slack. A new chain is stretched pretty tight just to go on the cam sprocket.
Received the wrong tensioner spring from CHP however the Cam cover that came in from them appears to have cleared up the cam chain rattle si we were able to take it for its first ride. Ran great.. thanks for everyone's input!!
