So I know this is mostly a CT forum but you folks seem to know your stuff. I am in the middle of a Z50R build. I am trying to get some current pics of it uploaded. I have a question for the guru's on here. Have any of you ever raised the gas tank on one of these? I know I can cut the front mount off and just weld it back on with a taller bracket but I was hoping someone else has already done that. I kinda wanted to see what it would look like before I cut the bracket off the frame. The reason for this is because I am trying to avoid having the carb and filter stick out the side of the bike. I wanted to try and keep it in the stockish location. Either way, I will try to update this thread as I make progress. The frame and tank are from an 83. The seat is from my first bike when I was 5. Everything else is standard aftermarket. YX140 motor, long swing arm, big forks, 10 inch wheels. It will be strictly a street bike hence the tires. The tank and seat will be used how they look right now. I have a 4 cell LiPo battery that will go on the left side cover behind the flasher, rec/reg, CDI, and fuse box. Thats pretty much it for now I guess.

Four cell lithium polymer battery? That's a 14.8 volt battery. Those batteries are very particular about what charges them and the rate at which they are charged. While they have a lot of stored energy which is good, they also have a tendency to erupt in fire if not properly charged. Just ask UPS.

I wouldn't use that chemistry on a bike. By the way, I power a number of model aircraft with those batteries using a proper charger.

I appreciate the concern on the battery and I agree that care MUST be taken when using them. I use the term LiPo loosely. It is actually an AntiGrav 4 cell lith-ion. I work for a company that makes charging systems for motorcycles. The battery I am using needs a voltage set point of 14.0 to 14.2 volts. I have a rec/reg made specifically for this battery. I have tested it on our dyno with the stator I wound for this engine.

I don't recall seeing anyone raise the tank. Most of what I've seen is folks relocating the fuel outlet/petcock...to get it out of the way. Maybe a little of both, might be good. I don't really want to steer you away from lilHonda, but you might want to look/ask around over on planetminis.com

So I'm just going to end up slotting the intake on the milling machine. Looking at it again, I only need to move the carb over about 3 degrees and then the choke won't hit the petcock and the throttle cable will fit under the tank. Like I said, I know this is a CT forum but is it still ok to post the rest of the build in here? I don't know many people close to me that are into the little bikes and it's nice to get some opinions on it.
