Yeah, it has been awhile, and that Bug is burlier than it looks, it has decent clearance for a VW... maybe it has some old school Bilstein Shocks on it, I didn't get close enough to check, LOL. Slap some quality paint on that bad boy, rig up some more lights so you can see where you're going at night, and "VOILA!!!" You're ready for some serious mountain & desert cruising, WAHOO!!! :red70:

That's my definition of camping, too...if one is going to bring a TV, WTF bother? I see folks driving their $500K+ bus-based rigs, many of them towing large SUVs...a few with boats, too. More power to them, I don't quite get how driving a truck-train in 2017 traffic is recreational. Must be some incredibly talented drivers, with cubic money to burn, out there. As for camping cuisine, give me a coupla ribeyes, spuds and maybe fresh sweet corn, roasting over an oak/maple fire, no nuke food allowed.

Forgot to mention that I usually haul a small BBQ grill out there, because I like grilling steaks by the campfire... in Lark Canyon, which was somewhat primitive, the metal fire rings had built-in BBQ grills, and we'd cook bratwurst and Angus dawgs on those, LOL. Fresh corn in the husk too, that's the only way to cook it. Taters as well, but those took a bit longer... sometimes we'd wrap 'em in scraps of foil brought specifically for the purpose. Slice the tater lengthwise, insert a slab of real butter, wrap it back up and put it on the fire ring grill. Cowboy coffee in the morning over a relit campfire, the coffee tossed into boiling water in a fire-blackened saucepan, 10-4??? "FILTERS?!? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING FILTERS!!!"

Yeah, THAT is camping, not driving some custom coach worth 3/4 million dollars into the field so ya can watch dish TV as the poor neglected coyotes howl in the distance, under an equally-neglected full moon, LOL. Other assorted varmints standing by, wondering WTF is going on with the showroom custom coach, 10-4? Moi, I gotta have a little campfire smoke and grit when I hang out under the stars, the smoke in my clothing and the grit wherever it's least wanted, LOL. Nothing like some good honest field dirt & dust to add the right touch to a four-day remote camping trip, AYE??? The 1/4-mile-long Alabama skidmarks in the drawers, not so much... once the drawers get crusty, they gots ta go, and a little water goes a long way to... well... never mind, LOL.

CARDS WIN IN OT, WHO WOULD'VE THUNK IT??? Y'ALL HANG LOOSE, I'LL BE BACK LATER LIKE A BAD RASH, "10-DASH-FO'???" o_O

Beautiful fall morning here in the White Mountains, gonna putter around and watch college ballgames with the kittehs... dang, the Sooners scored already, 81-yard drive in 5 plays, LOL. Anyway, things are looking up, so I'm not gonna stress out this weekend. Life is good in the White Mountains, where fall is in the air and the air is 100% smog-free, LOL. Gotta water out front at some point, hasn't rained much lately and the ground is pretty dry... got some fall flowers going off in the yard, don't wanna lose 'em due to lack of water.

Whoooowheeeee!!! Crisp fall morning here with an inbound cold front slated to bring even cooler temps. Kittehs are rocketing around like meteors... feeling frisky in this cool weather, LOL. Guess I should bring in the hummingbird feeders for the winter, otherwise they'll freeze solid and possibly crack, LOL. The suet feeders stay up all year, they bring in various woodpeckers and other birds that hang out here through the cold months. The hummers are seasonal, haven't seen many up here lately, just one or two holdouts who may have already split, been a day or two since I saw the last one.

That's just wrong for multiple reasons, LOL...

Got a few pics to post... some were taken last week when I ran up to Holbrook to pay my property taxes (wanted to do that in person, as I used to do with the property taxes in CA). I also took a few pics today when I took a little walk in the woods for my ongoing knee rehab... first actual hike since the injury, just an easy little trail right here in Show Low. I'm gonna ramp up the hiking now that my knee is a bit better, there are so many trails in this area and they're all beautiful, 10-4? Might as well start putting 'em to good use, LOL. The kitteh shots are self-explanatory, those knucklehaids!!! Hey, check out the horse decked out for Halloween, that store is up in the Taylor/Snowflake area... cool skeletal paint!!! LOL... WTF, it's never too late to have a happy childhood.

That's Crackhead atop the Mighty Camry, little varmint likes to sprawl out on the car and catch the breeze comin' through the carport. Jingle Belle is lyin' on the pool table in earlier pics, while Sage & Crackhead are sleepin' head-to-head on a blanket on my desk.

We start today's hike midway through this set of pics... crossing a large meadow and heading up along Show Low Bluff. That's Show Low Creek you see in one or two pics, I'll have more shots of that creek in a bit, I walked down there after my hike atop the bluff. Very pleasant trail, and easy on the knee... just what the doctor ordered, LOL.

Here we head up through the trees... beautiful fall day, though the colors haven't quite turned yet in this area.

Pretty cool little trail through the woods, yeah? Oddly enough, there's also a disc golf course which winds through the woods, up and down the side of the bluff and whatnot. I took a close-up shot of one hole, down toward the edge of the meadow. Hey, that pedestrian bridge has a rad traverse on it... a good climber could cross the creek without touching that concrete ledge, LOL. I might hafta bring my shoes & chalkbag down there once my knee is a bit better...

I guess there are fish in that creek, doesn't seem that big but it DOES connect with other bodies of water... plus creeks and lakes up here are stocked with fish as well. Shots of the kittehs were taken after I got home, they sure make life more interesting as I still live alone, but I expect to have lodgers in here soon, I'm fielding replies to my ad right now and I'm hoping to find a couple of decent roommates who like football and billiards. Gotta weed through all the bad prospects first, LOL.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention the manhole cover... pretty cool that Show Low puts the Deuce of Clubs on these covers, since the card played a big role in naming the town, LOL. One of our main drags is named "Deuce of Clubs" to this day, the other is White Mountain Boulevard. Well, gotta go, that's it for the pics today... CHEERS!!!

Yeah, I like it... the soil is best suited to evergreens, I reckon, but we have broadleaf trees up here too. Farming is best done at lower elevations, I think the soil is too acidic for most crops. But the country sure is pretty, one reason why I moved here... I'm done living in the city, seen too much of urban life as it is. The kittehs sure like their mountain home, every tree is a scratching post, when they're not sharpening their claws on my $1100 leather sofa, the blasted varmints!!! Meh, they're my kids, so I cut 'em some slack... when I'm not cursing them or hurling objects their way, LOL. They DO make nice blanket warmers at night, now that fall is here and the temps are dropping, 10-4? Last night, all three were lying in a pinwheel spiral with their heads together at the center... I wanted to get a photo of 'em lying that way, but I knew I'd wake 'em if I tried to go get the camera. They sure are funny cats, just part of the family here at the ol' hacienda under the tall pines...

Kittehs & I are watching college ballgames... flippin' back and forth between the Vols game and the Wolverines right now, but looking forward to the "Red River Shootout" between the Sooners & Longhorns, WOOHOO!!! Gots plenty o' leftovers too, not to mention a fridge full o' beer, so we're happy campers, LOL. Gonna take a drive next week to check out the turning colors off to the east, where the peaks are higher in elevation... haven't been over there yet, so I'll be sure to take my camera and bag some pics to post here at this site. I've been meaning to check out Big Lake, as well as the ski & snowboard resorts, they're all roughly an hour away to the east. Meh, I'll get over there eventually, reminds me of the T-shirt one truck driver was wearing at a truck stop, the shirt showed some driver trashin' around in a casino, while the caption read:

"WHY SHOULD I HURRY? THEY'LL STILL NEED IT WHEN I GET THERE..."

Pretty funny shirt, had to compliment the driver for wearing it, LOL.
