And now for some pics taken during my recon... the Stronghold is a maze of crags, domes & spires, and one can truly spend a lifetime exploring & climbing in this area. There is also heller monkeybiking on dirt roads and trails, particularly on the West Side of the Stronghold (camping is free along that side as well, gotta bring everything with ya). Access has gotten trickier since some developers bought up thousands of acres for ritzy homes in the private Dragoon Mountain Ranch, best to run Middlemarch Road out to the Forest Service road which leads up along the West Side, 4WD vehicles with good rubber are recommended for this trip. However, the following pics were taken as I approached Cochise Stronghold from the north and east, via Dragoon Road, Cochise Stronghold Road, and Ironwood Road... all paved except for Ironwood, which turns into graded dirt a few short miles from the Stronghold campground. I didn't have time to hike up into the rocks yesterday, that will come later now that I know all the access routes, but the pics are still cool. Here we go:

That Rattlesnake Ranch lies en route to the small community of Dragoon, AZ, I liked the dinosaurs and that bad@$$ Gila Monster sculpture, LOL. Back with more pics in a moment...

    Here we go again:

    IMG_9255.JPG IMG_9256.JPG IMG_9257.JPG IMG_9258.JPG IMG_9259.JPG IMG_9260.JPG IMG_9261.JPG IMG_9262.JPG IMG_9263.JPG

There's that Gila Monster again, that thing was heller cool, LOL... nice colors in the sculpture, 10-4?

Don't be fooled by pics taken from this side of the Stronghold, the rocks are much larger than they appear and they go for miles up those canyons to the south and southwest, the last few rock pics show only one tiny end of the natural stone fortress. Y'all wanna see some cool pics of actual climbing routes in the Stronghold, Google COCHISE STRONGHOLD ROCK CLIMBING: THE COMPLETE SET by Tanya Bok, then click on the images, I'm buying that book today, LOL. I'll most likely do all my climbing on the West Side, as there are less badges and the climbing is excellent in certain areas, but I may come this way again if I hook up with some climbers in Benson. Might even run a free ad in the local rag to FIND climbers, LOL. Hey, those dirt roads y'all see in the pics, some of them run for miles... be good for monkeybiking action, AYE???

Oh, these last few pics were taken on the way back to I-10 and Benson, these rocks lie in Texas Canyon right near Dragoon, AZ:

    IMG_9264.JPG IMG_9265.JPG

This shot of some badlands was taken on Sibyl Road, I took a detour to get off the interstate and enjoy the scenery on my way home:

Y'ALL BE GOOD, I'LL POST MORE PICS OF THE STRONGHOLD LATER AS I PULL RECONS & CLIMBING ADVENTURES, WAHOO!!!

Got some cool mural pics for youse heroes... railroads played a BIG part in the history of Benson, and the trains still roll through today, hauling one heckuva lotta freight east & west, with the odd Slamtrak special making a brief appearance. Some of the freight trains are well over a mile long, the longest I've seen so far had to be at least 1 1/2 miles long, pushing two miles, with four engines up front, two in the middle, and two bringing up the rear as "pushers." EIGHT ENGINES!!! It was one bad@$$ freight train, never seen the like before back in Dago or anywhere else, I tell ya... since Benson is big on trains, there are a number of murals down by the tracks, as well as some cool logos:

I like how the muralist painted himself into the Kartchner Caverns number... some notable caverns just south of Benson, I visited them back in my "trucking daze" and they are pretty cool. Gotta like cave tours when it's hot out, the caves are nice and cool down below ground. Hey, that longhorn mural is awesome too, looks like OLD CT about to get gored, LOL... shoulda brought the CT70!!!

Look closely at that final pic, and y'all can see Crackhead's snaggletooth jutting out from his lip, the product of a minor facial deformity... round here, we judge animals by character, not appearance, and Crackhead is quite entertaining when he goofs off or rockets around the house like a freakin' meteor, LOL. Probably why he needed his rest in these pics... Sage is older, he has an excuse, Mr. Sagers has been with me for a long time and we've been through a lot together, including some notable camping trips. Crackhead too, just not as many, 10-4? Well. time for me to climb back aboard the home rehab horse, swapped out that cr@pper and did some other stuff yesterday, gonna keep chippin' away at the stone till my home is finished. :cautious:

HASTA LUEGO, YOUSE MONKEYBIKING HEE-ROES & CRUSTY MINI DEMONS O' DIRT!!! WAHOO!!! :red70: :yellow70: :red70:

WOOHOO!!! The Mighty Combat Camry is running like a top, I changed the oil & oil filter yesterday, along with the ATF (it was time), and I dumped the usual additives in there... oil additive, Lucas additive for the ATF, and Lucas injector cleaner for the gas tank (now full, LOL). I even vacuumed and washed the car, detailing it for three hours this morning, so the Mighty Camry is looking good, 10-4? There was wood debris in the back seat from camping in Washington State LAST YEAR, so I guess the vacuum job was also timely... meh, been busy with the home rehab, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it, LOL.

I had intended to run to Tucson today after detailing the car, but the hour grew late for a run like that, so I'll probably go there manana, leaving my home here in Benson no later than 0900 in order to dodge traffic in Tucson, which can get hectic at rush hour. Gotta pick up some skirting panels for the double-wide at some outfit called Star Aluminum, plus I wanna buy some ear mite stuff and worm medicine for the cats, just to have it on hand... no sign of worms in either cat, but just in case they appear I wanna have the meds on hand. I noticed Sage twitching his ears lately, so I'll dose both cats with the ear mite juice, no worries.

Got both toilets running right with maximum volume on the flush, those low-volume flush valves and short fill valves are no good in my situation, living on a hill the way I do... I want those headless brown trout to get whisked clear to the sewer line in the street, where they can make the bobsled run down the hill and vanish pronto, LOL. No future in having 'em hang around to stink up the joint, aye? Anyway, all I have left to do is paint the bathrooms, that's gonna happen right after I button up the skirting on the west side of my home. I also have to swap out an electric motor for the "squirrel cage" in one swamp cooler, those fan motors are only about $70 or $80 at Ace, might even be cheaper elsewhere, I haven't shopped around yet. :cautious:

I might have a few other piddly tasks to knock out, but my home rehab to-do list is definitely getting shorter, and that's a good thing since the temps are starting to warm up for the summer. Weather has been really nice lately, haven't run any of the coolers or A/C units yet, though I did bust out a fan about a week ago while watching a movie in my home theater. Oh, yeah, that reminds me, I have to put that third A/C unit in the wall in my room, two are already in elsewhere... I don't like A/C units in windows, they look ghetto and rob the home of light, having them in the walls is the better way to go. My home is really starting to look good now with all the work I've done, the natural light is excellent with all the windows unobstructed.

I suppose I can do a little painting this afternoon, maybe tackle that kitchen island if I'm in the mood, I have some primo travel posters going up on that outer surface of the island once it's painted, the posters will look great in that location. I also have two colorful art deco geckos to put up on the columns at either end of the island counter, they will stand out against the white semi-gloss... they'll add a nice desert touch to my home, same as some of the other artwork does. Hmm, another option for the rest of the day is to pull a recon and look for trucking outfits along Highway 80, gotta think about going back to work when the home rehab is just about done. A local gig, not OTR trucking, can't leave the kittehs alone or they'll wind up getting drunk and burning down the house...

THOSE PESKY KITTEHS!!! LOL... WTF, THEY'RE MY KIDS, AND THEY EXHIBIT SOME OF MY PERSONAL TRAITS, 10-DASH-FO'??? ;)

ALRIGHT, YOUSE HEROES, TIME FOR THIS KID TO VISIT ANOTHER WEBSITE... BUT I'LL BE SURE TO DRINK A BEER FOR Y'ALL LATER, LOL. CHEERS!!! :D

OLD CT, YER STILL A KNUCKLEHAID!!! o_O

    A NINJA KNUCKLEHAID!!! :ninja:

    LOL...

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that Crackhead brought a horned lizard into the house... what some folks call a horned toad, aye? Both cats drag lizards into my home on a regular basis, but I usually get the critters separated in time and return the lizards to the Great Outdoors little worse for wear. When I first saw an object on the carpet yesterday, I thought Sage had puked a pile o' dry food for me, but closer inspection revealed the object to be a young horned lizard, LOL. I guess he got away from one of the cats, probably Crackhead the way my slippers were all scattered, then came out from hiding once the cat was gone... little dude was fine, just bewildered by his surroundings, or maybe jealous, like "Look at the way these wanks live... they even got a wet bar!!!"

I carefully scooped up the little guy and carried him outside to release him in a safe location. The only problem is that, whenever this happens and a cat drags a lizard into my home, I never know which corner of the yard was the one where the lizard was caught, so I don't know if I'm releasing him on the wrong side of the house, far from his original digs. Hopefully the little dude didn't have far to go in order to make it home, or maybe he just starts over in circumstances like these... a rock is a rock in the desert, I reckon, so long as there's room under one edge for a critter like that. Meh, he'll figure it out, he headed for some brush right away to gain cover and concealment, the birds here can be harsh on small lizards, particularly the roadrunners who make fierce enemies. The quail, not so much, LOL. :cautious:

I dig all the bird life in my yard since I put up the feeders and birdbath... one goofy quail likes to walk back and forth along the galvanized top rail of the chain-link fence, making his goofy noises as he goes. A real comic, that quail... usually I'll see a bunch of them in a file, but this guy is a loner atop the fence, the others hang out down below and wait for him to rejoin the group. Then there are the thrashers and other songbirds, including those birds with the trick yellow-and-black paint jobs, those birds are beautiful... got some redheaded numbers as well, they're pretty cool, they like hitting the suet feeders. One dove has learned about the birdbath and is making a daily appearance to hit the water... other birds too, but the dove is funny to watch.

ANYWAY, MY YARD IS A COOL PLACE FOR THE CRITTERS, AND ALL THE FRUIT TREES I PLANTED ARE DOING WELL, THE HUMMERS ARE HITTING THE BLOSSOMS EVERY DAY... SO LIFE IS GOOD HERE IN THE HIGH DESERT.

AT HIS AGE, SAGE DOESN'T BOTHER TRYING TO CHASE ALL THE BIRDS, BUT CRACKHEAD IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO BAG 'EM... BUT THE BIRDS HAVE HIS NUMBER, AND THE HUMMERS EVEN FLY DOWN TO LOOK AT HIM, LOL. o_O

CRACKHEAD SHOULD STICK TO LIZARDS, HE HAS MORE SUCCESS IN THAT DEPARTMENT, 10-4?

Plate below is broken, part of it is MIA, but it's still classic, LOL. Heaps of cacti are blooming this time of year, including this little guy in my yard... I like the colors!!! And that last pic is for youse Monkeybiking Hee-roes & Crusty Mini Demons O' Dirt, the funny thing is that there's actually a NEED for such a sign in Tucson, AZ (where I snapped the photo this morning on my way to Star Aluminum). Danged rednecks!!!

Actually, that first pic is of my bar at zero-dark-thirty, couldn't sleep so I got up to have a beer or two before lying down again. Crackhead can be quite stealthy, but the ceramic panther has him beat, LOL. Both kittehs approve of the carpet, inside and out, they snooze on it regularly, taking cat naps wherever they flop down, 10-4?

ALRIGHT, HEROES, TIME TO HIT WALLYWORLD TO RESUPPLY, THEN DREDGE UP MOTIVATION TO TACKLE THE LAST OF THE PAINTING... UGH!!!

WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER, I DON'T EVER WANNA SEE A PAINTBRUSH OR ROLLER AGAIN, LOL. :cautious:

Got my table up and running, along with cue racks, chalk holder, etc., we're in business with the billiards. Actually paid some guy $300 to make the table sweet again, thing is perfectly level and the felt is nice and smooth:

    IMG_9735.JPG IMG_9737.JPG IMG_9739.JPG IMG_9740.JPG IMG_9744.JPG IMG_9745.JPG IMG_9746.JPG IMG_9748.JPG IMG_9749.JPG IMG_9750.JPG

Hmm, can't make that one small table shot turn right side up, that table lets us have a beach in the Pool Room, LOL. Looks like the Star of India on that coaster, I want folks to have places to set their beers while shooting stick... :cautious::cautious:

Meh, yer all just jealous, LOL... I WAS gonna do it myself, but I'm burned out on the home rehab, so I simply farmed out the task. Some outfits wanted over twice as much to do it, go figure. Anyway, I'm distraught this morning, my cat Sage is MIA and he didn't even show for breakfast, which he NEVER misses. Both cats sleep with me at night, but sometimes they get up and go outside to stooge around a bit... hope to God ol' Sage didn't get picked off by coyotes, he might just be disoriented and lost, though I already searched the neighborhood twice. It'd be tough to lose ol' Sage, he has been with me for so long, it was bad enough losing Jingle Belle in Show Low... poor little Jingles, may she rest in peace. Here's hoping Sage turns up later today, I already left a message with the Animal Control officer, just in case Mr. Sagers got scooped up, which is highly unlikely... he's generally wary of all strangers. Damn cat has been with me for a LONNNNNG TIME, I sure hope he's safe somewhere, because it'll break my heart to lose him... :(

C'MON HOME, MR. SAGERS, WHEREVER YOU ARE!!! I STILL LOVE YOU, MAN!!!

No sign of Sage, and Crackhead is in a funk because he has no playmate... only thing to do is jailbreak another kitteh from the local shelter, house is too damned depressing with Sage gone. If he still shows up, as I hope he will, no worries, we've got room for another cat, gonna try to find a young female cat to keep Crackhead company... I'm off to the shelter, Crackhead and I aren't gonna spend another night by ourselves, aye? Poor ol' Sage, I hope he makes it back, never knew how much he meant to me after all these years... :(

No sign of Sage, poor little guy probably got picked off by the damned varmints... and I forgot to run a free ad in our local rag, though I noticed there are no "Found" ads either, so the outlook is bleak. Even Crackhead has been in a funk, as you can see from the following pics, but I DID rescue not just one but TWO kittehs from the local shelter, only $10 per cat and each is fixed with all shots, you can see the new blood below. They're timid creatures, Tiger & Tabby, shelter names, I've already renamed the young gal "Phoenix"---not as a nod to the metro dump, that ghetto hellhole, but as in rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of Sage's memory, 10-4? Here we go:

    IMG_9890.JPG IMG_9891.JPG IMG_9869.JPG IMG_9867.JPG IMG_9897.JPG IMG_9896.JPG IMG_9859.JPG IMG_9858.JPG IMG_9865.JPG IMG_9866.JPG

In the pics showing both youngsters, Tiger is on the right and Phoenix is on the left, with her white markings making it easier to tell 'em apart. I've also revised my estimate of Tiger, who is already venturing forth to explore the house, including recon jumps onto the kitchen counters, LOL. He's lightning fast too, even faster than Crackhead, I think... the two are beginning to form a friendship, so with luck they'll keep each other company as playmates, and Phoenix will eventually join 'em (she's the shyest cat of all). Good news is that both youngsters have used the litter box from the outset, I was a bit worried over my new carpet so I placed a litter box (temporarily) at one end of the couch.
