So if I'm reading this right...
Your saying that Honda made a run of about 400 bikes, in December of 71, for Canada, that are K0s?
This is the first I've ever heard of that. Do you have any of those bikes? Pictures of vin tags?

...and
Canada didn't get ANY K1s until at least January of 1972?

He is correct. The VIN’s went a little higher than his stated 286,200.

Cool!
So it looks like they stopped making K0s for the US in 8/71. Then made a few more for Canada in 12/71.
Did you know that Mike?? Are those your bikes that you pictured? Or you just have the pictures.
Did you knowingly SEEK OUT the Canadian 12/71 bikes, or just happened to find them in your collection?

Kirrbby, for the past 15 years +/-, I’ve recorded every VIN and info on all CT70K0’s that I’ve run across….in person and online. I have data on thousands of K0’s. I first ran across the 12/71 bikes around 8-10 years ago. Unfortunately, these are not my bikes, just ones I’ve seen online.

"looks like they stopped making K0s for the US in 8/71. Then made a few more for Canada in 12/71" The why would be an interesting story. Also wonder if American Honda included all the Americas or just the US?

Thanks for the info. I would think the 12/71 bikes would make for a nice small niche for a collector.

BTW... I'm liking the new handle. Nice that admin let you do that too.

No, i am not the seller of HONDA CT70 parts on ebay or any other website that ships from Canada. I have never sold or traded anything online. It' s during the Winter of 2000, right here in Quebec, that a "big CT70 craze" started. At that time, and until at least 2003, the HONDA CT70 K0, dated 12/71, were really easy to find as much as the other mini-bikes . The K0 and K1 models sold in the USA and in Canada are perfectly identical in all points. ATTENTION - I propose a new challenge to all fanatics and amateurs: Let' s find together the oldest date indicated on the back of the Owner' s Manual ( with photo as proof, please ) , and it could very well correspond to the month of the beginning of the K0 production, in Spring 1969.

Thanks a lot , kirrbby, for your quick answer! Do you know anyone, on this forum, who owns the book by JEREMY POLSON entitled: HONDA 70 ENTHUSIAST' S GUIDE released in the USA in 2018? If so, what does he think of it?

Ya, I have both of his books at work. But I haven't really read either of them. I'll try to look thru the CT70 book to see if there is any info about when CT70 production BEGAN.
I would be tempted to ask Gary Lewis. I think he knows quite a bit more than Polson does about these bikes.

Reading thru some of this book...I can tell you that Polson, does NOT know his CT70s. I see lots of inaccuracies just in the little bit that I did read. It seems he was relying mostly on others for his info...and he didn't take very good notes.
I think the Z50 book is a lot better...and I know he IS a Z50 guy.
Anyway.
I don't see anything really about the early owners manuals.
But here is what he says about K0 production dates.

Was this what you wanted to see in this book. Do you want to see the same info from the K1 chapter?

Hi,
I'm fairly new to the CT 70 and bought the book last year, before I purchased my 71.
I found some good detail information, but kinda lost me is some areas. There's little info about the 71. I now understand the production dates denote the year model, but it wasn't clearly chronicled in my opinion. Chapters jump from 70 to 72.
Good information on colors produced, helped me find a legit original bike.
The book is not perfect but lots of details in other areas.
