    Hello,

It came in the mail this morning for my Mighty Green ST90 and I have already made a street legal trip to the store for bread on it.

And this time for the registration, it was a little different. It took two mailings before to get my plate but it went through this time with no trouble. I guess I have finally broken the code on Vt DMV Form 119 in how to get it to go through on the first try.

With this registration, getting a plate and title is easy here in Louisiana but I'm good with Vermont for a year and I might just ride with the green plate for a while.

Way to go. In Tx you have 30 days to change to Texas plates. Too bad I dont have a brother in La that could title my bike and then sell it to me. :) You would think that if they see its not stolen or on some list that they would be happy to take your money every year for taxes and plates. Guess not. Im investigating a surety bond title.

So...spill the beans on this...How exactly do you fill it all out so you can get the VT plate?

    Hello FC,

The key, after learning from my first two plates, is to:

1 - Have a VIN verification form from your state police that indicates "NCIC negative". This shows that it is not stolen after being checked in the National Crime Information Center computer. They most likely check for this in Vermont as well but go ahead and make this statement on the VIN verification / inspection form - whatever its called in your state. The most important thing here seems to be that it is all on an official form from a police organization in your area.

2 - Maybe even more important, somewhere on the VIN verification form ask your same police officer from Step 1 above to make some kind of a statement that the bike is roadworthy, that it meets or exceeds the laws of your state to legally be on the road.

3 - Put a realistic value for your bike on Form 119 and pay a reasonable amount of tax. For me, the magic dollar value seems to be 500 bucks which is still only $30 in tax - not bad, for what I'm getting. Debating the clerk that you got the bike for free or your bill of sale only says $200 will not get us very far.

4 - They have not asked me for this and the Vt Form 119 instructions say nothing about it but I included a copy of my insurance card for this bike - it shows that you are serious about registering your bike.

Steps 1, 2 & 3 have slowed me down before so if you can at least answer those points, you should be fine.

    Rick

Where did you mail the paperwork? They didn't question your out of state address?

    Hello Hornetgod,

I mailed the paperwork to the Montpelier DMV office and Vermont does not care where you live. Even your bill of sale does NOT need to be notarized. It all boils down to money for them and I am thankful that they are so progressive.

Louisiana, OTOH, needs a reggie or a plate from somewhere or a certificate of manufacturers origin to register a vehicle - a bill of sale is not good enough. But once I'm in the system from somewhere like Vermont, I'm good to go here in Louisiana.

I mailed the paperwork I think on Tuesday almost two weeks ago and got the plate yesterday. Not bad for only $71.00. Not bad at all.

Does the police inspection form have to be from Vermont or can it be from the state it's performed in?

Just got a quote back from ITS for a NV plate good for one year for $275.00 Quote - Total cost for the 1970 CT70H will be $275. This includes a license plate good for one year. No insurance, photos or inspections will be required. Attached are the instructions and forms needed to process your vehicle. Please put the $275 on the SPECIFIC PRICE QUOTE on the VEHICLE INFORMATION FORM.Thank you, Un-Quote

As you know from prior conversations TX requires a title no ifs ands or butts (mispelling intended). But this might be of value to others if VT doesnt work out.
If someone wants the attachments then send me an email to mike@noranch.com and I will forward this guys email to you.

VT state police have nothing to do with inspecting vehicles, just ticketing. There isn't a form. Vermont has state inspection sites at various service centers. You have to show proof of insurance and current registration at these sites before inspection can be performed. All VT registered vehicles that will be operated in VT have to undergo a VT state inspection within 14 days of being registered. So technically, if Rick ever brought his vehicles here to ride and he would need to get a VT state inspection sticker adhered to the bike or he could be ticketed.

You don't need to be a resident of the state to register a vehicle here. Vermont has a large percentage of seasonal part time residents who keep and maintain summer and winter ski homes and vehicles here even though their main residence might be in another state. Thus, this allowance for out of state residents to register vehicles here.

Way to go Rick! That green plate should look nice on the Mighty Green, it does on mine!

Got my forms sent back today. Had a little hiccup. The fees were off by 4 dollars.. No big deal. But they sent it back with a form.

A paragraph was highlighted. It says.

This form must be completed in its entirety Buy a Vermont license dealer, or an appraiser who is licensed with the Vermont Department of banking and insurance.

    Anybody have this issue before?
Attached are the pictures of forms one they sent back.

That happened to me. I sent in the wrong amount. I didnt get the second form. They highlighted the amount box on my application. I sent in a new check for the right amount. Two weeks later got a plate. A few weeks after that got a sticker for it.
Toss the second form. There is no way it can land on the same person's desk.
Plus, the whole point of going through Vermont is that you dont have to be in the state. How the hell do they expect you to get it inspected if you arent there?
You must have had your application processed by a woman with control issues.

LOL woman with control issues. You should see the original form of follow the instructions I had red ink and corrections everywhere. Felt like I was in sixth grade getting a paper back.

Most corrections were minor stuff. The only weird correction was they circled the state that the seller was from (different from my state).

Also In the letter they sent back it said the dealer appraisal form was for my convenience....? I guess I will have to load up the CT and drive out there.

Thanks for the info I guess I give it another shot wish me luck.

All you need is the application, copy of bos, maybe a photo of the vin if you like, and a check.

One more question. On the application form they crossed out the model (CT-70) and changed it to CYL. Anyone know what that means?
