Anybody have the link for the free vin check? Everytime I try the motorbike ones on the web they say the Vin should be at least 17char long:45::30::17:wtf

I've done this before, can't remember the free site... I should add this a check on my recent purchase Craig'sL 1979 CT70 and it only has the 11 character VIN.

The 91 JH2 model check, works fine on these web sites

VINs weren't always required to have 17 digits.

In the engineered-to-sell-use-it-once-then-send-it-to-the-landfill-you-don't-really-own-anything world of 2016, machinery from the pre-17-digit era is likely to cause the occasional migraine. I've gone through this with Secretary of State (DMV) more than once, in person.

Kinda reminds me of last week when my folks came to visit I heard my father, after seeing my CT70 collection say "I just don't understand it".

He's from the school of thought, if it's old, needs work and taking up space, get rid of it.

Lol, Didn't say anything, I just shrugged my shoulders and smiled.

I can't help it, I like fixing up stuff that's cool, he'd rather fill up the trash bin with it.:p

Yeah, I've gotten a lot of that over the years and from more than just family. It's my considered (and probably over-thought) opinion that the world is divided into two camps, over just about everything. The dividing line here delineates two kinds of people: producers and consumers. I won't go so far as to say the one is necessarily "better" or "worse" than the other. I see it as more like one person viewing something as tried & true/classic/proven/reliable while another sees the same thing as "obsolete". In fact, there's a corollary of "Murphy's Law" which sez that once something is proven reliable, it's already obsolete...you'll NEVER hear me agree with that.:34:

Suffice it to say, for the moment, that in a world of 7B people, there's room for at least a couplathree different views...:24:

Well I know what camp he's in as an old retired Air Force E9 command Chief Master Sgt. He's kinda like the Great Santini..:21: If it's not ship-shape and working at a 100%, out it goes. Their visits are more like inspections Lol.

That's Ok, I always pass as I know what he looks for, besides... they only visit once a year.:4: After they leave , I always break out the single malt.:19:

:77:Thanks, I tried this one before, guess I entered it wrong using a space, it got this result:

CT7050053xx has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Theft Records.

The DMV also has a section you can look up VIN #s but each state might be different. You can do this with or without a plate number. Has come in very handy many times when some A$$hole on the internet tries to say it's out of the system or has no back fees. Just found another I was looking at yesterday where the scammer said it was in his name and in non-op. Pulled out he trusty iPhone and 1 minute later was able to call out his bull#%&t along with the $400 in back fees. Basically the seller got caught with his Di#k his hands and started back peddling. i know i'm:eek:ff topic:and rambling so maybe I should go fix myself a drink...

Your not off topic at all CTKIng. Buying a CT70 and trying to legally drive it on the street these days, can come with all kinds of pit falls and hoops you have to jump through. From titles that are partially signed like my 91' to some clown trying to sell a bike like the one you described but having a back history of unpaid fees. Then there is the worst case scenario where it's comes up stolen. Lot's of history can come with these vintage bikes, ya never know.

It's a PITA to get one of these vintage motorbikes legal to drive under state DMV rules & regs. I'm in the process to get a few of them up to par so i should know.
So yeah, have a drink better yet, make it a double!:p:3::19:

Hey, there's also a free VIN check site available from some insurance fraud outfit, but I think it only tells you whether the bike or motor was ever stolen. I mentioned the site in a previous post, damned if I can remember it now, but you can probably Google "insurance fraud VIN check" (or something along those lines) and find it. I used it to make sure my bike wasn't stolen prior to my DMV visit, LOL... didn't need to get arrested for somebody else's crime, 10??? :43:

Edit: Oops, I think it's that site listed directly above, LOL. "NICB" sounds familiar... :39:

I feel Adam's pain. I have three right now that I am going to have to load in the trailer and call the state and make appointment for VIN inspection. Just have to jump through their hoops and get it done and over with.
