Will a ct 70 start without a battery

You don't need a battery. You can jump the two black wires in the battery pigtail. However, the bike will run, but when you rev your motor, you will blow your headlamp bulbs in short order. Batteries are cheap, and I would recommend you run one.

Pony Express is right. Also, there is a device called the Bat-Pak that eliminates the battery, while maintaining all electrical function. I have one on all of my 6 volt bikes. I got rid of my 6 volt battery tenders years ago. One less thing to worry about.

I've been trying to research this bat-pak stuff and I think the device looks like this:

I found this website too. They seem to sell them on ebay too, for cheaper than their website.

Their site says there are compatibility problems with Honda CT70...can anyone verify or confirm this?

Bat-Pak

I have a bat-pak on my CT70HK0. With the key in the first ignition position, it will operate the brake light and the horn when the revs are up. In the second position (headlight), it only operates the headlight. All said and done, it works fine for just running around.

Instead of splicing the device into my wiring harness, I cut the connector off of the old battery and spliced that onto the bat-pak and plugged it in the harness. That way, if I want to use a battery again, I'm all set.
