wire harness verification ?

Hi - I put a new wire harness - from NEVC - in my K1 CT70 and I want to verify a couple things.

Near the battery box...

The bundle of two wires...
the red wire and green with yellow stripe go to the rear brake light switch?

The bundle of three wires...
the red and green go to the rectifier?
the black goes to the ignition coil?

bundle of two near the back...
the brown and green with yellow stripe go to taillight?

I haven't gotten to the front yet - anything special to know about there?
Is there any tests that can be done to verify connectivity - DC power points perhaps?

Thanks for your help! I think racerx said - the only dumb questions are the ones asked after you screw it up. ;)

I got an education yesterday

I plugged everything in hoping lights, horn, tail light would work but nothing worked. I still have a few parts getting chrome plated so I had a few things sitting next to the bike.

What I learned about the electrical system...

* Horn won't work until the handlebars are grounded
* tail light won't work until the backing plate for the lense is grounded
* headlight and speedo lights won't work until the bike is running
-comes off the stator and feeds the ignition switch which in turn feeds the brown/red wire and goes to the headlight and speedo lights

* ignition coil won't send spark to spark plug unless it has a good contact to ground (frame). The ledge where the coil sits had a fresh coat of paint and would not send spart until I exposed the bare metal under the nuts. I thought my stator was toast until I jumped the ignition coil to the base of the spark plug and - SPARK!

Some of these things are evident by looking at the schematic and I did do that. Just a little different perspective when you're working with the wire harness itself.

I almost pulled my hair out but got an education while working through these things. Maybe this will help someone else int he future.

I'm happy now.

Ahhhh...nothing like wiring and electrical problems to really make one feel truly lame:eek: As you're finding out, fortunately, the wiring is pretty simple & straightforward. I've traced electrical problems to arcane sources like the internals of the ignition switch. However, a hard-won victory (after a month's supply of MoFos in a single day) can be pretty satisfying and you'll know better for the next time around.

The repro harnesses I've intalled have all been 100% straightforward with the correct color-coding... true plug & play. Haven't run into any ground problems; I use a tap to chase all of the frame threads after a paint job and that seems to do the job.

Glad to hear that your project is rolling along now.:D

Very true - too many mofo's for one day! ROFL!

I learned a lot with this bike rebuild and know the bike even better now that I worked through the electrical details.

I've always said experience doesn't fall out of the sky. Its earned every time you do something for the first time.

When I got my 70, it took me forever to find out the reason why my rear lights didn't work. Had to find a wiring diagram, trace wires, then to find out that unlike my z50a k1 you need a battery for these things to work. But now thanks to all of the people on this board and particulary Tiedgen for providing it, answers are not far away
