Worst Paint Job Ever!

So I noticed the brake pedal was hugging the engine and it wasn't in a good comfy spot for my foot at rest. Figured the bike might have fell at one part in it's 25yr life cuz there was scuff marks on it too.

first I tried to put a K4 pedal on it and was surprised it didn't fit...too tight! :22:

so I put the original in a vice between two planks of red oak wood and was able to get it back to form but the paint got pretty scuffed.

Figured a fast shot of gloss black would spiff it up. When I sprayed it, it went on smooth as glass, when I came back to check on it, it had reacted badly, guess there was some oil on it.:13:

Only one thing to do; Aircraft paint remover then shoot a primer coat then black gloss.
Im certain it will look as good as new when I'm done.:10:

The brake pedal & pivot were both changed, more than once, between 1969-91. The one-piece brake pedal is narrower than the early 3-piece setup and the frame pivot was narrowed to match. With the 12v frames, the pivot OD and pedal ID were both enlarged. An earlier pedal must be overbored to fit, which is straightforward to do.

Kinda surprised that you didn't media-blast. Thought you had a small blast cabinet & compressor.

Learn something new every day and the brake pedal diameter was one that surprised me:)

I do have a small cabin for blasting, the problem comes in that I have a small pancake compressor only available and that won't cut it. My big compressor needs 220 Jolts outlet, something that this 'new home' doesn't provide.

Will put in my own 220 volt breakers, that's on the to do list. don't want to pay an electrician the 3 bills he'll surely try and stick me for to have them do it.

Anyway, applied the APR and it's nasty stuff! Can't believe when I was a younger man I put this on my 66 stang and took every inch of it to bare metal then shot the primer & paint myself. What a job that was.:p

Nasty paint remover! :31:
