a little off topic, but here is a picture of my first mini-bike resto. frame is original paint that I did not want to disturb. Other than that, it got touched in some way. Sorry to have sold it.

Thanksgiving day was a wonderful day for painting. Sunny and in the high 60's. T-shirt, shorts and sandals and some paint. Used a shopping cart to hold the frame upside-down to get a coat on the under side before doing the top. Probably will take another complete coat to cover everything. I am just afraid of missing some spot. Should have taken a friend of mine's offer to do some painting. Oh well...

It has been a busy day. Finished painting the frame and layed down a nice heavy coat of clear. Turned out pretty good. In retrospect I should have paid to have it painted. But then again it is going to be a rider. With the frame finished, the only thing left to really paint are the forks. They are in primer right now and should be done sometime this week. To cap off the weekend I took the upper end off of the engine. Still had an original Honda plug in it. Some oil sludge found in the cover for the clutch but everything else looked good. Don't plan on splitting the case, unless I see some severe sludge on the inside of the case. My plan is to clean up the valves, hone the cylinder and install some rings. Some cosmetic clean up will be done as well. The frame painting was a major step for me. The rest will be a walk in the park.

so, yesterday i cleaned up the cylinder head and the cylinder in the super-awesome parts cleaner at work. a friend of mine has a soda blaster and i hope that we can get both head and cylinder down to a much cleaner state. there is a cycle shop right across the street from my work that will hopefully help me out with a light honing of the cylinder. it looks fine, but if i am going to be putting rings in i would like to have it honed to be sure. the front fork assembly has been painted and is awaiting clearcoat. maybe tomorrow i can have it back on the bike with some new All Balls bearings.

Last night i spent some time just putting some nuts, bolts and washers back on to the frame so that i can keep everything organized. little steps right now, but always going forward.

Hello all. The 50 project is on hold right now. Working on something with 850cc more displacement. Parts list has been made, but need to wait until after the holidays. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all if I don't update before then. 2013 is looking to be a good year for the projects.

Not much to report on progress, but my replacement forks have arrived. I believe the set I bought are from a CT70, but only the forks will be used. Also, my steering bearing kit does not fit. If there is not a kit available for my early bike I will have to modify the newly added steering stop on a freshly painted frame. Life goes on...

so, the z50 project is put on hold again. After getting an '85 Kawasaki Ninja 900 back together and on the road I came across a QA50 K0. Maybe this summer the little z50 will get finished up.
