Z50a clutch rebuild issued

To address very rough shifting and difficulty getting out of gear I attempted a dissassembly , inspection and rebuild with new friction discs. The only problem I found was the entire clutch assembly came apart when i took the retaining nut off. The giant circlip wasn’t in place to hold the assembly together. I copied a couple of youtube videos to put everything back together (several times) but the problem is always the same; the shifter mechanism seems to work when the cover is off and I’m holding things in place by hand. As soon as I put the clutch cover on and tighten the screws the shift lever won’t budge. Everything still seems aligned the same when I pull the cover off again. This is my primary reference.Video Help please!

make sure the drive gear behind the clutch basket is properly seated in the basket, and all the way on the crankshaft.

It started to work with more clutch adjustment from the outside. But I also did what you suggested so that may have been the real fix. Thanks
