As long as it's not going to cause any issues when I put the wheel back on. The wheel spacer pretty much just rests against that backing plate, correct? I'm doing a resto and the bike has been apart for a while and I'm just making sure...I think I'm reading to much into it.

I have looked in the Clymer book but can find no reference to anything regarding the two key slots on the rear brake panel/backing plate right where the axle comes through. What purpose do they serve?
