1974 Honda trail ct70, three speed auto. Kickstarter will not engage until the very bottom. Everything I have read, everyone says clutch is the problem. Just replaced clutch with Honda factory clutch disks. Did not help any! Tried to adjust clutch, no help??? Any thoughts?

Are you running automotive engine oil or a special motorcycle wet clutch "JASO MA" rated oil? The "Energy Conserving" / "Resource Conserving" car oils are too slippery for our clutch friction disk material. You have to read the fine print on the back of the jug to see what the oil supports.

It matters.

Did you get the bike to run since the clutch was refreshed? And know the clutch is adjusted correctly? If you can pull the lever up ''all the way'' and ''hold it'' in between shifts and rev the engine, it's adjusted correct. I would have put new springs in also. Any plate warpage or discoloration on the plates, gets new parts. Did you soak the clutch fibers in M/C specific oil for at least a few hours?

Bike has 1200 hrs on it, been sitting many years. Old clutch and disks showed no wear, plates no wear, but 50 yrs old , so replaced. Tried to adjust old clutch, no help. Soaked new fibers in motorcycle oil for a short time, and filled crankcase with same. Tried to adjust new clutch, no help. Did not have bike running before or after new clutch. When clutch was out, I moved the kickstarter shaft to check the internal spring, seemed fine. Engine only turns over at the bottom of the kickstarter. Thank you so much for the help.

It's possible you are missing some teeth on the kick shaft gear also inside the case. Just a guess as you never had it running.
